RE:
How do you reset the "maintenance required" light on a Toyota Yaris after an oil change?
I took it in and had the oil changed but the mechanic didn't know how to reset the light. I took it to Toyota and they didn't know how either.

Close, but not quite.
Make sure the odometer is showing Trip A, not odometer, then turn key off.
Push and hold the reset button in then turn ignition key on,
Number of mileage will turn into slashes which will extinguish themselves one after the other.
When number of miles comes back, it is done.

According to Toyota, push and hold your odometer reset button and turn the key to "on" position until the light goes out.

We will hope someone will know for sure.
Here a few to try. Not starting the car. Turn on the key and try holding the Gas pedal to the floor, or push 2-3 times to the floor. May hold the brake and try also. If, you have a display button that can scroll various information (Like Oil index, may show 50% stuff like that) Scroll to the oil display and push and hold the "Reset" button until it resets. May try disconnecting the battery, but, many may not clear on that.
These just guesses. Maybe someone will know for "Fact".

what? the dealership doesnt know how to do their own job? what are we even paying them for?!?
take it to an auto zone.
they should be able to re-set it for you for free.
they will need to walk out to your car, and get up underneith your dash (in most cases)
however, this is a problem for a few other people online: look what i found when i searched:
"If you mean the "CHECK ENGINE" light, check for the gas cap not being on tight enough. 99% of the time, this is the problem. "
if it really is your maintenance light try this:
"to reset the yaris maintenance light. turn the key switch to the "on" position. set the "ODO" to "TRIP A". while holding the reset button, turn key the key to "off" position then turn key to the "ON" position. the light will start blinking for about 5 second. continue to hold reset button until light goes out and "trip a" goes back to "0.0". "
there is an awesome forum you should have in your bookmarks. all kinds of great information if you have a yaris: (see sources)

turn off your vehicle then you hold down the button next to the speedometer and you turn your key to the on position until you see the light blink 3 times and then it turns off if not then there is something else wrong with the car
