...or is it all a matter of what you make of it?

Just wondering...

Interesting answers so far...

Does it matter if its a reading at a carnival for "entertainment puposes" only?

Or how about if it just a group of college friends just "playing a game" late at night?

Or how about if you have a friend who practices Wicca as a religion and you KNOW there is nothing Satanic about her beliefs? She is more of the nature and earth type of believer.

Does the context make a difference?

You mean is a Christian able to be open-minded? For certain. Although the answer is the opposite for those who have closed their minds to other gifts of God. They will tell you those things are of the devil. Closed-minded Christians want to decide what gifts God can or can not give to people. Now are tarot readings and psychics real...? Some I'm sure are, but others may just want to cash in on people's gullibility and roleplay as a psychic.

Tarot cards, psychics, and things like that fall very closely into the realm of magic.

To answer this question in part, we have to ask what is magic? Magic is the idea that a person or group can by some means (incantation, spell, item, etc) change or see things in the universe not normally under their control or not normally seeable. Magic is, in short, man trying to do God's job.

For a more direct form of answer, the Bible speaks clearly on the fact that witchcraft and consorting with spirits is wrong. What is using tarot cards? Witchcraft to see the future. What is a psychic doing? Speaking to spirits.

By those two guides, such things shouldn't be done by a Christian.

Not a good idea.

Deuteronomy 18:10 -11-12 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Galatians 5:19 -21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, Witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

When you make contact with these people it can cause the devil to take hold of your soul. The demons can manipulate you into trying and doing things you otherwise would not do.Deuteronomy 18: 9 “When you are entered into the land that Jehovah your God is giving you, you must not learn to do according to the detestable things of those nations. 10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, 11 or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12 For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. 13 You should prove yourself faultless with Jehovah your God

Of course, everyones personal relationship with our Lord is within ourselfs. We need no outside mediiums or readers but God has given us gifts of the spirit for a reason, NOT TO SIT ON THEM! Sometimes we all need encouragment or verbal guidance along our path." Words of wisdom ," is a gift of the spirit . Call it what you may, pshyic, mediums, readers. I beleive it's all about intent and whom the resource of the wisdom comes from or whom the individual claims it comes from. Myself every gift of the spirit " that I have,"comes from God. I am merely a vessle willing to be used of God.

ummm the answer would be no! God is the only consultant you'll ever need. You should put your energy trying to establish a better relationship with him rather than looking elsewhere. It's like saying thanks God your great but I'm going to get a second opinion elsewhere just in case...
