If you are a Barclays customer, you can pay a cheque into any branch.

If you are paying money into someone elses account, then, again, you can go to any of the branches of the bank. Quote the sort code and account number and you can pay in.

I do this regularly to pay my rent. I get a printed receipt which I keep in my records.

The location of the bank is irrelevant. As long as you have the your account details and the cheque is made out to you, the bank you are paying it into will automatically read the information from the cheque into you account.

I assume someone has given you their account number and you are writing a cheque to them.

It would be far easier to go to your own bank (preferably online) and request a transfer than to fiddle about with cheques.

If you have a barclays cheque just take it to your own bank with your paying in book and card and they'll sort it for you.

The address will be on the cheque under the title of the bank - although you do not need to go to the branch to pay it in.

Sure, just pay it in at any bank, they will know how to collect. ALL bankers know how to collect.

Not entirely relevant to this question, but If you ask for a transfer (electronic) it is rather expensive. Cheques (and cash) are cheaper.
