I must hold my hands up and say that I love watching old footage of Conteh. Also being British, like Conteh, I do try to be objective (unlike many), I just do not think that Marvin, apart from his Heart, determination and desire (and thats plenty), brings enough of anything special to upset a prime Conteh. For an aggressive fighter he does not bring the Dip-Slip-An-Rip technique of say Qawi, the Strengh and cunning of a Galindez, or Even the Dynamo charging of a Superman Scott, Does he have the Durability of an Ahumada ? Marvins in there somewhere to various degrees and elements, but Conteh in his Short accredited Prime, could box extremely well, could punch well with either hand, could move well, switch the attackk very quickly. And of course, John had that malevolent attitutude in the ring.

They come no braver then Marvin and you can never stick your chin out with him, his Style may initially cause John to "Have a good look at him" in the early rounds, but once Johns done his scouting, I would expect him to pull away. I doubt that this could fail to be an exciting encounter.

Although you should never look to one fight for the answer, I can not help but recall how the classy Gregory/Muhammed dismantled Marvin, this mightbe something similar, but with John Targeting the Head more then the Gregory example.

Not that it matters one Iota, but I gather John beat Marvin quite handily in an ametuer match. I think history would repeat itself here. I go for Conteh in a late round stoppage (probably about the 13th). The prime Conteh was a very formidable customer. Unfortunately, mismanagement and partying derailed him in his prime.

Good matchup here. I think that Conteh was probably a better boxer but Johnson was tough and could really punch. This would be a very even fight but Johnson would catch him in round 13 with a furious assault and prompt the referee to halt the fight.

John Conteh turned right into a good fighter. yet he wasn't overly exciting. Marvin Johnson turned right into a warrior. at the same time as Matthew Saad Muhammad received the identify from Johnson, for the duration of hte interview he reported "That Cat is undesirable!!!!!" i'd see Johnson prevailing in a warfare of attrition, someplace around the 10th round.

they never fought? i remember the fighters and marvin seemed to do better in matches against the other fighters of that time, both lost their big fights against saad muhammud.johnson looked good against michael spinks until the spinks jinx was put on him.i would say marvin johnson would beat conteh.
