The translation depends totally on context. There are 2 possibilities, depending which word you emphasize.

1. "I should try (literally: "do") that (some time)"
- Emphasis on "das" and "machen"

2. "If I did that, everybody would be terribly upset" (... but this person got away with it.)
- Emphasis on "I"

I should (have to )do that (this) once.
In fact it depends, litterally translated it means This I should once do. Could you maybe post in wich context or the previous and next sentence?

It means: I should do it sometime. It's German.
