In my opinion, one is a mental disorder and one is thought to be a mental disorder? Also, thinking you are speaking to another entity doesn't make it so or less disturbed.

And while I'm on this subject, do you think an omnicient diety can't read your mind - why do you have to SPEAK the prayer? and do you really think God has "ears"?

Lunar Sarah: You didn't answer the question, which was "why pray out loud?"

No one can force you into anything. My advice is either seek God with all your heart out of true desire, or break up with this guy. If you can't let go of your dreams and the things you love right now and actualy enjoy what you get in it's place, then you two will be miserable regardless of what direction you choose to go. Follow him to find the most fofillment if you are going to stay together... but if that will make you miserable then you are better off breaking it off. Trust me, I've been on both ends of this one... I realy do know what I'm talking about. God bless, love you in Christ. PS.... What makes you think that you are saved anyway?

I didn't quite catch the 2 opinions you gave, but I'll say that since we christians believe the word and endeavour to follow it completely, we are instructed in the scriptures to pray and to speak the word, to be doers of the word, and when we confess Jesus as Lord and Saviour it doesn't happen in the head, it is something that comes out of one's heart and mouth,. If it all happened in the head then the bible would contradict itself which in my opinion cannot be.

Because when I pray I'm talking to God about important things, and when I talk to myself I say things like, "Now, where's that TV remote?" :)

And while I'm on the subject, when I pray aloud it's because I want to. I'm not asking anybody else to.

Praying aloud helps you realise what you're asking/saying. Praying aloud is talking to God, not to the air. Talking to yourself is usually either a way of just remembering stuff (in my case) or of exteriorising nerves etc.

Yes, God can read our mind, but Jesus himself tells us to pray--not just for ourselves but for one another. Good enough for me. It's an order.

Why does a God who can read your mind tell you to pray, if he already knows? So that you know--so that you can acknowledge His intervention when it comes.

Well, when you are talking to yourself it's just like you are praying to god. God hears every word that you say or even think. he knows your heart and your soul. It is not a mental disorder!!!

At least if you are talking to yourself there is a chance someone is listening.

If you speak and no one is there to listen, you are indeed talking to yourself.
