I would expect a 'normal' person to ask: "What did that pilot think he was doing?"

He knowingly flew his airliner over an active naval battle and ignored repeated warnings. What did he expect to happen?

You are asking about an incident that took place 19 years ago?

The following is not an excuse for the plane being shot down but lets also ask, how should normal American react to this?

The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the United States that was triggered by a group of militant university students who took over the U.S. diplomatic mission in Tehran on November 4, 1979. The students were supported by Iran’s post-revolutionary regime that was in the midst of solidifying power. They held 63 U.S. diplomats and three other U.S. citizens hostage until January 20, 1981. Of those captured, 52 were held hostage until the conclusion of the crisis 444 days later.[1] These actions are often considered a violation of the long-standing principle of international law that diplomats are immune from arrest.

I am certain we can dig up something to bash just about any nation on Earth should we choose to go back 19 years or longer.

I think typical Iranians should react the same way '19 years ago' as we did. With disbelief, anger, and then sadness over the issue.

Did you know that invading and taking over a countries embassy is a declaration of war? If you want to bring up history lets put it all on the table. Yes the Vincences crew messed up when they shot down the airliner. And the US paid and apologized for it. Did the Iranians pay restituition or apologize for invading the embassy?

It was ancienthistory that happened 19 years ago. What about TWA flight 900 over Scotland. The El Al aircraft that was hijacked to Entebbe, while their president did nothing but help the terrorists. The Kelly Lawru. The list goes on. Should we still be upset with the German's for their sinking of the Lusitania?

The plane wasn't squawking so they shot it down.. The best thing the Iranians should have done is to get out of the way. Blessed Be

The US apologized for the error and paid restitution. Iran has never apologized or paid restitution against the seizing of the US Embassy and supporting of terror attacks on US citizens in the 1980's, 90's and today. War with Iran is long overdue. The US should have smashed Iran rather than Iraq.
