The Bible was written by many different authors over thousands of years. With some books, such as Job (considered the oldest book in the Bible, and the epistle to the Hebrews), the original author is unknown. Moses is credited with the Books of the Law (also called the Pentateuch) which are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, but some of the earlier stories from Genesis were passed down as oral tradition from Adam through Noah and the Abrahamic line. King David wrote most of the Psalms. The gospel writers Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote the gospel accounts that bear their names.
What is important is that God inspired these people from many walks of life to write the various books of history, prophecy, poetry, and Christian doctrine, and that He preserved these words through many times and cultures. Despite the different circumstances, locations, and persons who contributed to the Bible, the recurring theme of grace through the coming Messiah in the Old Testament and the Risen Christ of the New Testament can be seen woven throughout each book in types, shadows, prophecy, and gospel.
There is a very cool song by the Christian group Casting
Crowns called The Word is Alive that talks about the Bible.
I also suggest that you get a copy of a good study Bible with some reference pages. Most modern translations include a cover page before each book that tells more about the origins and author of that particular book.

THE Bible wrote the bible never mind about the last answer , of who cares , the bible is most important book one can read . THE BIBLE WAS started by ISREAL,S 3RD KING whosd name was SOLOMAN. Soloman, who initiated the great work and this then would be know as the Bible. For the first time scribes were told to record the isrealites trible traditions ,history and they poems , What this did it embraced tales of the creation, and semi-legengery of the Stories of Abraham . and the accounts of the settlement in Canaan. This was the flight to Egypt and the exodus of under Moses. Now through many generations were to pass =and many revisions to be made -before the records were complete , by the time of Solomans death in 922 B.C, A solid foundation had been laid. IT IS SAID THAT THE collection of works made in Solomans in his reign were later formed the basis of the Pentateuch , this was the first five books of the Jewish sciptures. and of the Christian Old Testment . AND thats how it started ,

They were people like us but they were the chosen ones, prophets, disciples, kings, sheperd all sort of background through Jehovah God's Holy spirit. just as God used his powerful holy spirit to create the heavens, the earth and all living things, he also used it to direct the writing of the Bible.
This means that the Bible has only one author, Jehovah God. He used men to write the information down, much as a businessman uses a secretary to write a letter. The secretary writes the letter, but the letter contains the thoughts and ideas of the businessman. So it is his letter, not the secretary’s, even as the Bible is God’s Book, not the book of the men who were used to write it.
Since God created the mind, he surely did not find it hard to get in touch with the minds of his servants to provide them with the information to write. Even today a person can sit in his home and receive messages from a faraway place by means of a radio or a television set. The voices or pictures travel over long distances by the use of physical laws that God created. It is, therefore, easy to understand that Jehovah, from his place far away in the heavens, could direct men to write down the information that he wanted the human family to know. most of all God can not lie titus 1:2; Exodus 31:18 and 2 Peter 1:21

The Holy Bible was written by various Authors that were lead by the Holy Spirit. Most if not all Bibles reference the name of the most likely author. For instance, the Gospel of Matthew was written by the apostle himself. Each writing was an independent letter. The Catholic Church compiled the letters that were determined to be inspired and formed what is known today as the Holy Bible.

Lots of different ancient scribblers, borrowing heavily from previous religions.
A lot of it was written hundreds of years after the alleged fact and, thus, most of it is made up, just like a novel.
I'm also led to believe that the Vatican witheld 14 'books' that were not included.
I also need you to know that there were 20 commandments. The second ten being very different from the first batch and mainly gobbledegook.
I am going to stay in now. It's raining outside.

I think JohnL has answered this question including the hole history which to my knowledge I cannot fault.
Ezra the Scribe probably wrote the most as the Burning Light of Knowledge inspired him one night to dictate God's revised edition to the five scribes of fast hand of cuneiform.

originally, the old testament comes from the different texts of Jewish prophets. Then the new testament is all the various angles of perspective from Jesus' crew. Unfortunately, when they first incororated it together, they decided to leave some whole books out because they didn't like mixed messages. Basically, what you've got left is a bastardized game of telephone. Like, "Jesus is lord purple monkey dishwasher...."
