I am in USA and I will be traveling to Bolivia in few days. I have my own laptop (1 year old). A friend asked me if I could buy a laptop for him here and take it to Bolivia. Do you know know if there is a problem with that? do I have to pay something extra? can I take both on the plane with me?

As long as you stay within the carry-on baggage allowance you should be fine. I travel with two laptops frequently and never have a problem. Depending on the importation laws of Bolivia you may be taxed on the new laptop if you declare it or it is discovered by customs officials in Bolivia, most countries do require that you pay duty on expensive items like laptops that are being imported. How you handle the situation when you arrive in Bolivia is up to you, but my guess is that you could easily just bring the laptops in without being questioned or declaring them.

You sure can take 2 laptops...but when they ask you to take them out of your bag and put them in a tray...use 2 seperate trays. (do they do that in the US).

the reason you do this is it is very hard to see what is under a laptop in a bag because it is full of mothherboards and what not. if you don't take them out...they will just send you back to the front of the screening point!

hope that helps (sorry it is so long winded)
