Baptisms for the dead are not meant to kidnap anyone from their religious denomination. Contrary to popular belief, baptisms for the dead do NOT make the person Mormon. This is an incredibly common misconception. The baptisms are meant to give those who didn't know Christ when they were alive the opportunity to accept the Gospel.

I have asked Mormons about this. They are the group that performs "Baptisms by proxy" for the dead.

Their answer is that they believe that after death, people still have the ability to decide whether to accept whatever beliefs Mormons believe will get them into "the higher heavens," but one of the conditions they need to satisfy is becoming baptized. Since the dead can't be baptized in the afterlife, they perform baptisms "by proxy" (i.e. with a stand-in) in their name in this world and offer the results of that baptism to the dead in the afterlife. They say they would not and cannot force the dead to accept the Baptism, but to them it is the moral thing to do to perform the actions and offer them that chance to enter higher heavens.

Any Mormons out there, correct me if I'm wrong about this.

If you mean baptism as in getting into a body of water with a corpse and dunking in order to save their soul, I can think of a couple of reasons why that's a bad idea:

1. It's a waste of time. The soul within that body is no longer there, it's like closing the barn door after the horse got out.

2. The corpse is biologically decaying and I doubt you'll find a physician anywhere who would tell you it's okay to sit in water with a dead body.

Acts 8:
36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

God gave us free will and He will not act contrary to it, nor will He ask it of us. No baptism for the dead is valid!!!

Proverbs 11
7When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.

No baptism for the dead is valid!!!

Baptism of the dead is useless. Scripture specifically states that a person must make their choice to believe and be baptized before death.

The bible tells us that baptism is something we choose. Others can't make that decision for us whether we're dead or alive.

A pointles exercise.

Baptism is an agreement between a person and God to do God's will. It is not a ticket to heaven.

The dead are conscious of nothing and cannot make any agreement.

(Ecclesiastes 9:5-6) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

They are 'asleep' in death.

(Psalm 13:3) Do look [upon me]; answer me, O Jehovah my God. Do make my eyes shine, that I may not fall asleep in death,

It's really a mute point. Baptism is for the living to profess publicly their faith in Christ. Once the person has passed away, it is useless.

No, it's not kidnapping, because it's pointless. It won't move anyone or thing anywhere. Once you're dead it's too late.

Mormons are the only one I know that do this. Why seek after the dead? God is not a God of the dead but a God of the living. It is of none affect.
