Evolution exists. I have no idea if that is how this planet/universe came into being, but evolution exists. Even when I was a bible-believing born-again Christian I was smart enough to know this.

there is a difference between genetic variation and mutation....and what is known as evolution......variation produces lateral changes, and mutations may temporarily express, but will eventually be self destructive, and self -limiting.
if viruses were obeying the law of the fittest, then they would rule the world and we would be living under a stump somewhere. What you see is sporadic and temporary....

Yes, viruses evolve, too, and kill people. It that "survival of the fittest" part of the evolutionary process.
Viruses change and are able to better infect humans. Humans change and better ward off infection. Then viruses change and better infect humans again. Evolution is about constant change.
