Some kinds of cancers are treatable. However, if the damage done is quite extensive, you can only expect the treatment to lengthen the life of the patient for a short time, say 5-6 years is the longest.

It is sometimes cureable. My mother got lung cancer, but it was detected early, when the tumour was only 4 mm Long. At that time the doctors were optimistic. Because of where the tumour was situated, it was necessary to remove the entire lung. When this was done the doctors were sure they had completely got rid of the cancer. She died 5 months later because of unexpected complications due to having only one remaining lung, but this was a surprise to the doctors. Apparently many people live for many years with one lung. So, as far as the cancer itself is concerned, yes, sometimes it is entirely cureable. My sympathies if either you or someone close to you has lung cancer.

Some people will die earlier than others. But, death is inevitable for all of us. My uncle lived 10 years after having part of his lung removed. My husband died very fast. He was not able to have surgery.

it depends on the stage and also what type of cancer people have.
the overall survival rate (5yrs) is below 10%.
many patients die within a few month after being diagnosed. lung cancer often causes tremendous back pain as well as a hard time breathing. that's why most patients receive pain medication (e.g. fentanyle) and sedatives (valium) in order to make them comfortable.

I THINK WHAT YOU'VE SAID SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT. MY FATHER DIED RECENTLY (though not from lung cancer) AND HE WAS KEPT COMFORTABLE . IT WAS A VERY PEACEFUL PASSING AND I WAS WITH HIM TO THE END FOR WHICH IM REALLY GRATEFUL AS I NOW HAVE NO FEARS OF DEATH

No, that is an incredibly over-generalized statement.
Lung cancer is not an automatic death sentence.
