I have arthritis in my spine (cervical, thoracic) and a heating pad seems to help some with the pain - but does anyone know if too much heat is a bad thing?

You do not state what 'type' of Arthritis. However try AXIAN of Capsicum Cream, now that is heat. Heat is good, but remember the idea is to kill the inflammation, kill the pain and then exercise. If you are just using heating pads and not following through with the specific exercise, you are not benefiting from the heat. Therefore will be 'glued' to heat forever.

I think the only problem with too much heat is it can result in burns if left on too long. I have back problems and lay on a heating pad constantly - it hasn't burned me but I noticed the skin on my lower back is becoming scaly, so I'm applying lotion.

Also if you have a recent injury you are supposed to use ice, not heat, because ice helps the swelling go down. But I think heat is OK for a chronic condition.
