I do. I think it may start an Asian arms race. It would also trouble China. They don't like it when NK doesn't listen to them. And often they don't. With the South's money and the North's military bearing, everybody in the whole area would be worried about what they might do. With luck, nothing would happen. With lots of luck they might keep China at bay. With lots of BAD luck they'd form an alliance with China and we'd all have to worry. Korea bears watching. I hope they have the wisdom to "stay cool", because reunification will definately happen, folks.

First of all, Japan cannot rearm itself. The treaty signed at the end of World War II, limits Japans ability to arm itself, secondly, the reunification of the Koreas wouold ultimately be a good thing, without N. Koreas current Leader. Look at the changes in Vietnam over the last 30 years. I doubt we will see one Korea anytime soon and other than Nuclear, they pose little threat otherwise as there are 300 million Chinese Army sitting next door.

Right now there's no one that could keep china at bay. I hate quoting numbers that I can't remember specifically, but if the US were to go to war with China right now everyone of our pilots would have to shoot down over 20 of their planes to come out ahead. Back to you're question though; its a impossible scenario. S. Korea would probably never consider siding with the north especially not in the near future. The north is still a communist country, why would the south want to move backwards? Wait until after Pung son wa (sp) dies or leaves office. After that re-ask your question.

The only threat a united Korea is to Japan is industrial. The exploitation of low-income north would, for a time, give Korea some manufacturing advantage that they need to continue to compete against China. Once the dictator is gone the tension is gone...nothing to worry about.

japan isnt going nuclear. (it hurts that i read some ones answer) if north and south korea reunited --believe me its not going to be called north korea--maybe south korea but if your united --korea----of course you might hear "the north shall rise again" --you know things like that. plus japan and the new "korea" (if things happen) are under a no "nuke" thing a ma giger. and china---forget it --they just have to give up what they say they are not doing in the first place. so all good---lol. yes, we do want reunification. ----or do want to start trouble--more jobs for americans---the war industry.

I'm a Korean Linguist i.e. a Korean Peninsula expert. You fail to mention which type of "reunification" you mean.
Theres two.
-The North taking over the south (which wont happen as long as the US is around)
-the south taking over the north (militarily or peacefully)

Due to North Korea's terrible infastructure and human development, either version would result in the "new Korea" being bankrupt and in financial and military crisis. Also...the north's military bearing doesnt mean as much as you think...their equipment is mostly 60 years old and their troops live off handfuls of rice.
Japan, relies on and genuinely treasures their US relations so they wouldnt do anything outrageous, nor have they ever indicated that they would consider it. Japan dislikes Korea in a NY Yankees VS Boston Redsox fashion only. They dont actually HATE them. I'm not sure where you get your info but its ill-founded.

A united Korea is a force to reckon with in Asia and this might resurrect the instinct of Japan to rearm itself and become a superpower again.

Yep, if they didn't they would glow, cause little Kim would light em' up.

You may know what an intelligent dictator would do but, we're talking about Kim Jong-il he would put it all on the line to destroy Japan and claim it for the new communist Korea state, look how long we've been at war with them!
