Or is it only rude when they're oveweight?
I don't mind at all when people ask me about my weight, but I read and heard that it's "offensive" for men to ask women their weight.

I meant to say "what her weight is"...lol
The question still makes sense either way.

Well it is rude in the sense that it is embarrassing for a women to have to say she isn't comfortable disclosing that information. But if she doesn't want you to know, ans you inquire, that's what she has to say. So as a gentleman a guy wouldn't put her in that position. So it is "rude" I guess either way. But like most things it depends, in this case it depends on the girl.
Now I like how you are using the "golden rule." That shows good character in my book. But yea, to sum up, its rude to do to all girls and I would be more worried if I thought she might NOT want to answer.

Isn't it strange? Women can ask men that question and a load of others that don't seem that serious to men:
"How old are you? What size shoes do you wear?? How many women have you been with???"
But, ask a woman the very same questions and all of a sudden, you're a mean, rude, selfish prick!!!
Real women don't mind, but there's a time and a place for everything...discretion is the better part of valor...lol

I know! I don't get it either. As if the way a person looks suddenly changes by having that information. I mean, it's pretty hard to hide being overweight (I know!). So, just by not telling someone how much I weigh, am I going to look any thinner? No. Same thing with age.

I sell insurance and have to ask women their height and weight. Some women won't tell me. It's weird. Honestly, men don't CARE what the number is........it's just a number. I've been married 27 years, and my wife still won't let me know that "Number." She's around 130.
But to answer your question, it is rude and I don't know why.

It's called having manners. Personal info is just that....personal and up to that person to bring it up in conversation or not. There is no good reason for asking someone else personal questions whether its weight, age or anything else. Its nosy.

I don't mind the weight question. (5' 2", 120, healthy with nice curves). I do mind the age question...since I am asain, I look 10+ years younger...so it shouldn't but my daughter had once thought that I was 100 years old (she was in kindergarten and had no clue about numbers...). :) Happy Thanksgiving

I think it's polite to smile and say "Wow, you have lost so much weight since I saw you last."
Note this does not apply to cancer suffers or the entire population of Somalia.

It is never rude. It is the invention of Western Society.
In Western Society, it is impolite to ask a woman her age or a man his salary.
In Asia, it is a MUST for the man to know his fiance's age and for a woman to know how much his fiance earns. It is very logical and no one takes offense in such questions in Asia.
Edit:
Whoever gave me a thumbs down is either retarded or lacks common sense. A man needs to know how old a woman is before marrying her so that he is confident that she is of child-bearing age. The woman needs to know that the man earns sufficiently well enough to meet her needs and to support their children. Please use your brains instead of blindly thinking that your culture is the best one!

its not as long as they are are not extremely overweight.People who know that they are overweight are extremely embarrased by this. Best thing is not to ask unless you want to lose friends . Think of something else to ask that will only make them feel loved or interesting. It works much better, especially if you want to make a good friend. Good luck. We all live and learn.
