A guy is selling his female german shepherd puppies that are about 3 months old. Here are my questions about it:

BTW: You don't need to answer them all, just answer as much as you know***

1.At what age will it become big? (Normal size)
2.Are they as strong and active as the male?
3.When should we get a pro trainer?
4.How much excerise does it need in a day?
5.What excercises does it like?

Thanks!

1/ - As crzycoookies has stated

2/- Generally, females are smaller than males, but are definitely as strong and as active as males. They are just as smart - there are more female GSD's competing in obedience than males (in Australia anyway).

3/- Start informal training with your dog straight away. Make her wait for her food, teach her bite inhibition. Teach her sit and down/drop. I recommend you train your GSD yourself (formal training at about 6 to 8 months) as you will strengthen the bond between you - go to an obedience club to socialize and learn from the instructors.

4/- As crzycoookies has stated.

5/- Sniffing, chasing rabbits, fetching his Kong toy - and you can build up the retrieve in GSD's that has low retrieval. Swimming after ducks. Playing with female GSD's and other female dogs.

Just a warning here if they are already three months make sure they have been socialized and are confident a German shepherd that was not socialized to many things in the early weeks by the breeder can be a pain to socialize now do not pick a puppy who runs away from everything. That is what I did and he is very hard to deal with scared of a lot of things.

Anyway they grow for about 2 years my dog reached his max height around a year but was real skinny for a long time but filled in around 2 years.

I walked my dog a lot like an hour a day whenever possible and also he loves the Frisbee and tennis balls, my next shepherd will do some sort of sport they are good at many.

Start training them young yourself and go to puppy classes and at least one general obedience class these also help socialize them with other dogs and people as well as training. If you want additional training there are individual trainers and some places offer levels of obedience classes where your dog can learn more

German shepherds are all strong and active also very very smart and they will outsmart you to get their way if you don't train them early.

Ashephard reaches full growth and 1 1/2 yrs. Females are as strong, just not as tall as a male and they are as active. They are also more protective. You really don't need a pro trainer, Shephards are very smart and respond to training quite well. I start training at 8 weeks so get right on it if you are getting the dog. At four months, go to a beginning puppy class. Even your local Petsmart has them. Basic obedience training classes is all you will need unless you are wanting them trained for something specific. An hour walk once a day and may a half an hour of frisbee or fetch. I had a large staircase and I would throw the ball up the staircase andhave them go and get it to wear them out. That is the minimum they need. Shephards will do anything. They are working dogs. Happy Puppying!

I have a 1 yr old male shepard and he's still growing. He's about 75 lbs right now. Shepards are prone to panosteitis which is a disease where the dog grows too fast and puts on too much weight to where it puts strain on their long bones. You can give them aspirin for the pain and usually goes away by about 18 months of age. So they don't become full grown until about age 2. They are very strong and active, my dog loves to go for walks and can knock over my fiance. It really depends on the dog as to when you want to get a trainer. A lot of people suggest waiting until they're atleast 6 months old to get them trained. A word of warning, do not take them to a class at a pet store like Pet's Smart, pay the extra money and take them to someone trained in training shepards, its worth the money. You'll have a much better dog if you do. My dog is pretty satisfied with one good walk a day, but we also have 3 little girls that he plays with too. The older they get, the less active they become, but that doesn't happen until they are much older. My dog LOVES to play fetch with a ball, rope, anything he can chase. He also loves to be chased in the yard. I wouldn't suggest getting a german shepard unless you have the time for them, they need a lot of attention, but they are great dogs.

1.At what age will it become big? (Normal size) I've been told that with dogs this size, their bones grow until they are 1, and then they gain muscle mass until they are 2-3.

2.Are they as strong and active as the male? I'm pretty sure.

3.When should we get a pro trainer? With the way GSDs are.. probably as soon as the pup sets foot in your house, ha! They're not bad dogs, they just need alot of attention.

4.How much excerise does it need in a day? Well, with my dog, who is half GSD, I find that taking him to the park and letting him run(not confining him with a leash) for a half an hour to an hour generally tires him out, though he still likes to play a little bit later on in the day, he doesn't destroy stuff.

5.What excercises does it like? You could let them do what they were made for, herding.. Other then that, just walking/running. They're not much of a fetcher in my experience, and don't like water alot.

Females are just as strong as the males you should gt a pro trainer abot 2 months after you get her 2 walk(1 in the morning 1 at night) is good for a routine excersize they like all kinds of excersizes just like any other dog. They also enjoy playing w/ frisbys and tennis balls.
