You really need to read the history on this.
When Ireland was granted its freedom in 1922 the northern states voted to be removed from an independent Ireland and rejoin the UK. Northern Irish have voted on several occasions against joining the south to make a larger country. The majority of Irish don't want to be a singular country.
The old IRA that fought for independence and against the tan and blacks in 1919 - 1921 dissolved soon afterwards. The Provo IRA which has been killing thousands of civilians since 1960's has never been for an independent Ireland.
The Current IRA is nothing but gangsters fighting for control of drugs and extortion. They have extreme punishments for anyone disagreeing with them. The first warning is a beating in front of your family at night. Other punishments are kneecapping, involving shooting both the kneecaps, Braking the ankles, placing a block of wood between the ankles and then smashing them with a sledge hammer, and the crucifix, the person is nailed to the floor through there hands, knees and feet, the nail ends are cut off so the person has to be pulled off the nail.
There bombing of cities caused hundreds of dead people and throughout the troubles they killed:
- 644 civilians
- 456 British military
- 273 Royal Ulster Constabulary
- 182 Ulster Defence Regiment
- 163 Republican paramilitary members
- 28 loyalist paramilitary members
- 23 Northern Ireland Prison Service officers
- 7 Gardaí or Irish Army
- 5 Brtitsh Police officers
They injured
- 14,000 civilians
- 6,000 British Army, UDR and RUC
The IRA lost 276 members during the Troubles of which 123 of these cases, IRA members caused their own deaths. 103 of these deaths were caused by their own explosives in premature bombing accidents.
The IRA also has links with other terrorist organizations such as the drug lords in South American and Several Muslim terror groups. Most of the current bombing practices in Iraq were taught for knowledge passed on by the IRA. In 1972 alone the IRA carried out 1300 bombing, twenty-two bombs in Belfast in the space of seventy-five minutes on the 2nd July alone.
The IRA were the first terrorist groups to use Car bombing, several bombs set at different times for maximum casualties,
Please look at the chronology of the troubles and a history of what it is really about.

Moronic Post all they are trying to free is money from kids when they sell drugs, the "I Ran Aways" are the biggest drug dealers in the Ireland when not pulling robbery's.
You do know that the Irish Republic list them as a Terrorist Organization?
"RTÃ News understands that four members of the IRA are the chief suspects in a spate of armed robberies on hotels in the midlands, including this morning's raid Co Kildare.
Two gardaà were held at gunpoint during the robbery at the Clonard Court Hotel in Athy last night.
Four masked and armed men entered the hotel and ransacked the reception area just after 2.30am.
Three of the men were armed with shotguns and the fourth had a sledgehammer.
It is understood the two gardaà arrived at the hotel while the robbery was in progress and were held up.
The four men left the scene in a red 4x4 vehicle, which had been stolen earlier in Athy.
Gardaà believe the gang has been responsible for a series of raids over the past six months, including incidents at hotels in Kildare, Carlow, Meath, Kilkenny and Wexford.
Most of those raids took place at the weekend when large amounts of cash were still on the premises and each time a gang gained entry to the hotel in the middle of the night.

What century are you in? Eire has been independent for almost 100 years. Northern Ireland has a minority Catholic community and the majority community do not want separation from the UK. Recent political changes (last 10 years) have seen old enemies sit with each other in combined government) Indeed, the IRA are no longer a significant force in the two countries and ther vast majority of the Irish deplore IRA, and the equivalents on the Protestant side. The Irish are free, it's a non question. Grow up.

No I don't they are murdering terrorists that targeted innocent woman and children.
The ONLY good thing to come out of 9/11 was it stopped the IRA in their tracks and showed what Britain had been putting up with for years.
If you class them as patriots well you must class the PLO the same because they had the same cause.
Do you know the they hide Nazi U-Boats in their habours in WW2 and sided with the Germany.

I believe that any organisation that blows up 21 innocent people in public houses is a terrorist organisation.
I believe that any organisation that in a democratic way seeks to change border politics is a democratic organisation.
I believe that any organisation that upholds the morals and ethics of its country within the defined country borders, is a patriotic organisation.
I believe you do not know what freedom or "their land" really is. "Their land" is also home to a large number of Irish people who wish it to remain part of the United Kingdom. That is their freedom - and THEIR land.

They are terrorists pure and simple. I am a third generation Irish American. My Grandfather recognized them as terrorists back in the day and he was right then and he is right now.
Just because they look like me does not mean that I find their penchant for blowing up innocent people any more acceptable.

Depends on their targets. Having a "noble" cause isnt a good excuse for terrorism. Not getting what you want isnt always an excuse to blow things or innocent people up. Did they target civilians? If they did, they lose my respect.
