The interviewer was taking a break for a few minutes after talking for 45 & we enjoyed a refreshment. I walked up & told him that I'm not ready and/or prepared for the type of work, and left. Should I have stayed? Was it not rude to leave and just wasted their time or was it okay to just excuse myself from the group interview?

My husband went for an interview once at Target in Minneapolis,Minn. and he was interviewing with a VP and had to excuse himself to make an urgent phone call. He was in the middle of talking with him and realized that he didn't have his wedding ring on. He was flying home directly after the interview. He placed a call to the hotel, they found it, and he made it to the airport in the nick of time. Needless to say Target didn't hire him. We believe it was due to his checking out during the interview.

Unlike my husband what happend with you is a little different...I just thought you might like to hear a worse story to hopefully make you feel better!

I would say that in your case that you did this company a service by letting them know your reluctance regarding the job. Like you said you didn't want to waste anymore of their precious time. I would think that if you would want to interview for another position in the future that they shouldn't hold it against you. I would think that they would consider you someone who is concerned about time management. That is one of the most key ingredients in the business world.

Good Luck in your future endeavors!

No, it wasn't rude at all. Since you were not prepared / interested in the job, leaving the place was the best thing to do. Most probably the interviewer appreciated your action as he need not waste time on you and i don't think he was offended by this.

I think you did the right thing. A business meeting is not the same as a social event; I believe you did indeed allow them more time with people who better fit their needs, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I bet they wrote that down.
People have a tendency to know
other people.

I guess it was better to know before
you got hired that, that wasn't the Job
for you.
