Thomas Aquinas lived in age when many Islamic ideas were penetrating Christian society. The Moslems of his day had studied Greek philosophy, so the ideas of Aristotle and Plato were among the these ideas. Western society had lost all these writings during the Teutonic invasions and the collapse of Rome. St Thomas recognized that the total rejection of these ideas was a mistake. These philosophers were pagans, but there were many truths that were not anti-Christian. He took a look at these ideas and rejected the pagan ideas. He used the ideas which were neutral concerning Christianity. He used the philosophy of logic to support Christian arguments. He also attempted to summarize Christian theology and organize it in an orderly manner. Unfortunately he lived in about the 12th century and did not have any modern scientific knowledge. Some of his ideas now seem outdated.

I am not a Christian but his works have been rendered largely historical by modern day advances in the sciences. The Quinquae viae might have worked in his time but they're a bit of an embarrassment today.
Examply, loosely translated:
- Some things are moved.
- Everything that is moved is moved by a mover.
- An infinite regress of movers is impossible.
- Therefore, there is an unmoved mover from whom all motion proceeds.
- This mover is what we call God.

i do no longer know... Aquinas' Summa is quite dense reading. If somebody does not have adequate reason to renowned that ethics derive from nature and not from a e book, i do no longer think of having them examine the Summa is going to help. no longer that he wasn't staggering. all people with a million/2 a ideas owes it to themselves to a minimum of aquaint themselves together with his innovations. Peace to you.
