Do you mean the point or the actual image? I'll answer both ways, since I'm feeling talkative.

The point of my avatar is to, well, look like me. Hairstyle, glasses, face are all pretty similar. I gave myself black wings because I have strong affinity for crows and ravens (I'm not a goth! Don't look at me like that!). I did have my outfit as something I would love to wear, reading a book because that's what I do. Now I just got out of a stupid relationship, and I really want to find some friends in my area since I'm new here, so I put a background of a concert and changed my clothes to a more dark and depressed look. I've even got a frowny face!
Once I make a friend or two here I'll perk it all back up again. Either that or I'll watch enough 80s movies to cheer myself up and put my avatar in a cheezy 80s outfit!

Mine (today) is a backlit butterfly I took at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest a couple of weeks ago. The background is the out of focus tress/shrubs. The bokeh is courtesy of my Minolta 70-210 zoom at 210mm, f8.

My avatar is Lacus Clyne from Gundam Seed... she's additionally stated as the pink Princess, consequently my nickname... haha, sure i admire anime. XD besides, she's the fictitious character that resembles me the main, the two in character and seems (yet with blonde hair instead of pink, lol). so because it is why I chosen her. :)

My avatar is a picture I took of one of my daughters. I painted her with day-glow paints using symbols of many cultures and photographed her under a black light.

I'm standing in front of a portrait of salvador dali, going "da-daa !". It was commissioned to publicise an exhibition of his original work in Melbourne. It now lives next to my bed and his face is the first thing I see when I wake up :o)
