If so, how does it break? What I'm going through (for the past several years) I think has been more than a testing of the faith. I need relief!

When people come up on the street and ask me for money, sometimes I give generously, on a couple of occasions I have taken the person to buy them food, and sometimes I just say no. It depends on part snap judgement (in the sense of discernment not condemnation) and hopefully some spiritual sense.

One time about 15 years ago, a healthy young lady (who I thought was associated with a group of other similarily dressed young people loitering nearby) approached me for a handout and when I refused she "cursed" me. Not in the sense of using some familiar swear words like you cheap g-- damn SOB but a formal curse delivered with conviction and malice. Needless to say this was a memorable experience. Being a Christian, I immediately said a prayer for this young woman, which of course was the right thing to do for many reasons. The psychological and spiritual power of this young womans words left me with a deep appreciation of the vulnerability of the superstitious to such actions. A person without either a faith in God or "science" can definitely be verbaly cursed in this way and effectively so. I am saying that if you have any doubt in your mind, then someones willful expression of hatred and malice WILL have a very powerful and negative effect on you. I was quite surprised at seeing this aspect of my human nature and quite glad to have the armor of my Christian faith as well as my modern scientific opinion that there was no way these words could really physicaly hurt me.

BTW to answer your question: Curses are an expression of hatred and the way to break them is to express love.

Moses put a curse upon the Jews, if they were to not follow the laws (until the point at which God said something new, through Jesus Christ).
St. Paul put a curse on those who would spread false Gospels preaching another Jesus Christ....a Jesus Christ who is not one with the father and God in the flesh, who did not die upon the cross and rise from the dead....in other words, Muslims, Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses, who each in their own way deny that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh and deny the trinity that the apostles taught.
So yes, curses can be real...they are in fact in the Bible.
To break a curse requires an act of faith, and of course the removal of the accursed problem. If you are a JW, you must stop! If someone has cursed you, informally, you must do some acts of faith and devotion to break the curse.
A good curse breaking ministry is Don Stewart Ministries in Phoenix, Ariz. Look him up on the Web and explain your problem to him. He has the faith acts and devotional kits you need. He will ask for a tithe, an offering.

My husband and I struggled for many years, blaming each other, society and sometimes just mystified by our bad luck, then we found out that my husband's dad's parents had been shunned by their Mennonite brethren.

I had already been washed clean of any ancestral curses (which can cling to a person for a few generations, even if you go see a fortune-teller at the amusement park, that can cling to you and follow you and your offspring around for a while!!!! I did not know this until I went through "Life in the Spirit" seminar offered by our church.) You'd be surprised at what can happen when the Holy Spirit is called upon you and there is a laying on of hands.

Yes. You can be suffering from a curse. Let God be your guide, pray daily, and be faithful.

You believe God when He says something? That's what a Christian is supposed to do, right? Well, here is a promise from my God:

Genesis 12:3
"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

And Paul, picking up on this explains that Abraham was the recipient of Grace, and that because Abraham was gifted for trusting God, the promise goes to those who trust Him, who are counted as the children of Abraham by faith:

28 Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 At that time the son born in the ordinary way persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now. 30 But what does the Scripture say? "Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman's son." 31 Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.
( Galatians 4 )

God has something in store for those who try to curse His children. Let Him do it though. He is good at it.
Psalm 37
1 Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;

2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Yes Christians can live under curses from 3 things
1. Sins of the father
2.curses spoken over you from a person In authority over you.
3.you can speak a curse over yourself.
The power of life and death are in the tougne.
A curse without a CAUSE, will not alight. I just mentioned three causes that can cause a curse.

If you have been cursed then you are walking in rebellion. Only repentance can break a curse.

Or are you going through trial by fire.....when God tests your faith.
If you read the book of Job that should help.
Remember he was a righteous man.

In Timothy it says """yea, and all that will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution""""

What your going through is not unusual because husband and I have been going through it for years.

Well...it sounds to me like you're not praying like you should be for help from God....If He brings you to it, He'll bring you through it!! You need to pray for a peace that surpasses ALL understanding!! I do that every day and God delivers! If you aren't doing what God wants you to do, that might be another reason why you are experiencing the frustrations and turmoil you are going through. TRUST ME....I am probably going through just as much if not more things in my life than many people on here, but God will show you the way...you just have to let HIM!!

Curses aren't real. You're just having a bad time. It will pass. Its not to test your faith. Its to be able to perfect your soul for God (a "trial by fire", if you will).

Edit:

Wow, some of you should really listen to yourselves. You sound like a bunch of superstitious cooks! lol, this is hilarious!

Hey BJ,

The Bible says greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. The Power of the Holy Spirit is greater than any adversary (demons, curses, etc.)

i would say bring your struggles to God, and see that nothing happens to us that God doesn't allow. Perhaps God is allowing trials to bring you to maturity.

Please also keep in mind that testing is not always caused by God-- we do live in a sinful fallen world but God never allows us more than we can handle. So God is allowing trials to teach you how to depend upon Him.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

True Christians can not be cursed.

Proverbs 26:2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
