Thinking of buying a PS3?

Question

I am looking into buying the ps3
is the 80 gig with motor storm included for 499 a good buy?
I heard they downgraded the system to drop the price but would it still be ok?
No red ring like xbox360 i hope.
Or should i just go with the 40 gig with spider man 3 blue ray dvd for 399
I'm not looking to spend alot but i want something that will last.
Unlike my crappy xbox360 with the red ring 2 times!!!!
Now i cant watch hd dvds or play games....
Thinking of selling all my 360 stuff and getting a ps3
Any suggestions and help is appreciated thanks ;=)

The 80GB PS3 with Motorstorm is a very good buy, and Motorstorm is an awesome racing game as well. Sony didn't really downgrade the 80GB PS3 to drop the price, they only took out the Emotion Engine chip that allows it to be compatible with almost every PS1 and PS2 game.

The 80GB PS3 uses software emulation to be backward compatible, but it just can't play as many PS1 and PS2 games that the 60GB PS3 can because the 60GB PS3 had the Emotion Engine chip in it.

I've had my 60GB PS3 for 11 months, and I haven't had any problems with it so far. No overheating, no hardware problems, no problems at all. As long as the PS3 has proper air flow it will never over heat.

But, I recommend that you get the 80GB PS3 because it has the backward compatibility, the digital camera flash card slots, and 4 USB ports( the 40GB PS3 doesn't have the flash card slots and it has 2 USB ports).

The 40GB PS3 cannot play PS2 games, but it can play PS1 games, but if you're not going to play PS2 games on the PS3 at all, then get the 40GB PS3.

Also, all of the PS3's except for the 20GB PS3 have built in WiFi.

When you're looking for a console that will last, then the PS3 is for you. I think that it's a good idea that you sell your Xbox 360 stuff and get a PS3. The PS3 will last for many years to come and some awesome PS3 exclusives that will rock the gaming world are right around the corner.

If your Xbox 360 is flashing red three times, it's covered by warranty and will remain so for three years after purchase date. If you're not looking to spend a lot, that would be your best bet. Additionally, you'll no longer be able to watch any HD-DVDs you own, and if you'd like to watch high-def movies on a PS3 you'll need to repurchase them on Blu-Ray, adding to your costs. You might reconsider the value of purchasing a PS3 now: I've thought about it, but only see two or three exclusive games that entice me at the moment.

Though it'd be a step backwards, PS2 consoles are ~$50 used and there are still many great games under $20, if you're looking for a solid, cheap gaming fix.

Between the 40GB and 80GB PS3s: the 40GB uses significantly less power, runs cooler, and does not have PS1/PS2 backwards compatibility. If you already have some PS2 games that might be worth noting. Warhawk (a downloadable multiplayer-only third-person action game) requires about 800MB of hard drive space; many games 'install' files on the drive to speed access times, though that's only relevant while you're playing those games. If you're mostly a casual gamer, 40GB should be enough, though I cannot speak from experience.
