the door swings both ways.

don't make us to be the bad guys, everyone is guilty here. however, personally speaking, i tend to have more views in common with that of buddhists and pagans than christians, simply because they do not believe in a supreme being.

I'm not at atheist, so perhaps my two cents are worth a penny.

I notice in mosts atheists a kneejerk reaction to Christianity. Hypocrisy, proselytizing, elitism, closed-mindedness, and being judgmental on the part of the Christian is what fuels this reaction most of the time. And let's face it! Likely 98% of all Christians fit all of these criteria perfectly!

Christians are supposed to be not only a representation of the faith, but a representation of Christ (Christian meaning, after all, "Christ like")

I am Christian, myself. I'm not the best representation of Christ walking. Mostly, my ability to live up to the strict moral code of Christianity isn't always so strong. But I fit none of those criteria as a Christian -- and so, the atheists I know tend to respect my beliefs to a great extent.

Buddhism and Paganism are religions of tolerance. They lack most, if not all, the elements that most atheists tend to despise about today's Christianity.

I have seen rants written by atheists in regards to these faiths and faiths of a similar pattern, though. A great many atheists are skeptical of these faiths and think that the claims and conclusions of, say, Paganism are absolutely ridiculous and fairytale-esque.

Atheists are often great thinkers, but are notably great skeptics.

That's a pretty silly assertion.

Atheists tend to beleive that Pagans and Buddhists are wasting their time, but at least the damage they cause is minimal.

I don't care what religion you practice, provided you keep it out of the political, legal, educational and medical systems.
Do Pagans do that? Yes they do. Do Buddhists do that? Yep again. Do Christians do that? You bet your a** they don't, and that's why they are open to criticism.

I've never praised Paganism or Buddhism. I've never denounced them, either, but then again, the Pagans and Buddhists aren't trying to get their philosophies taught as science in my public schools. If Christianity wants to be left alone and not attacked, they need to back off their efforts to turn the USA into a Christian version of Iran.

Buddhism is non-theistic. Therefore Atheists have nothing to say about it.

Skeptics, however, can criticize Buddhism on two fronts: karma and rebirth. But if you take those two things out, you have something slightly better than secular humanism.

I've never met an atheist that did that.

I don't praise any religion because I think it's all fiction. Maybe you're hearing "praise" where it's merely an appreciation that people who follow those paths typically don't scream at us and damn us to a hot place because we don't think the way they do.

Because we Pagans and Buddhists are peaceful people. Christians tend to be the opposite.

wow.

well hold on...simply saying that (all) atheists (a widely general term) praise Paganism and Buddhism is a bit of an assumption.

obviously not all "praise" those religions.

i dont "praise" paganism at all...but it sure as hel ldoesent have the history that the 3 main ones do...

same applies to Buddhism. i do reccomend that people try Buddhism because its simple and easy to understand and is actually a peaceful religion (something tha vast majority of religions are NOT)

so dont generalize...really...makes you look uneducated.

by using fact Christians are those knocking on their doors, proclaiming this harmless individual who has completed not something incorrect different than to have a door, to be a sinner who will burn in H*ll till they think of like a Christian does. Norse Pagans and Cdn Buddhists have in no way ever knocked on my door just to tell me i'm a rotten individual.

Probably because Buddha was an actual person, and because Paganism celebrates Mother Earth and her cycles instead of a deity that can't really be seen.
