You can go to your local Social Security office to apply for a new card, it won't arrive for 2 weeks, but before you leave the office, they will give you a letter, that the employer will accept as your card until the new one arrives. Your tax ID card is for tax purposes only.

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN or Tax ID) is for tax use only. It does not entitle you or your dependent to social security benefits or change the employment or immigration status under U.S. law. Employment is authorized by the social security department.

The ONLY ID number valid for employment is a SSN. If you have a SS card marked "Not Valid for Employment" or an ITIN you may NOT use those for employment. If you are ineligible for an SSN, you are ineligible for employment in the US.

An ITIN (Inidividual Taxpayer Identification Number) is not valid for work. It is issued solely for tax purposes. (In fact, when you got it issued to you, the letter said this as well.)

You cannot buy or borrow and SSN for this or any other purpose.
