Hi everyone,
My sister's birthday is coming up, and we were thinking of getting her a ps3, and I have a few questions before we do.
1- Is there is 20g one? the smallest one I am finding online is the 40g one for $400... I am trying to spend about $300. Is this possible?
2- If they do have a 20g, and i end up getting it, will we be able to expand the memory later on?
3-Would buying a Wii be a better investment than the ps3?

Thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate it.

There was a 20gig model produced when the console launched, it may still be possible to find it somewhere but I wouldn't recommend it as it also lacks WiFi.

If you are going to buy one get either the 60gig or 80gig (both of which are the same price), but they are both out of your price range at $499.

I wouldn't get the 40gig model as it has no backwards compatability, meaning you can't play PS1 or PS2 games on it (as you can with any of the other models).

I have enjoyed both my PS3 and my Wii, in terms of bang for your buck I think the Wii wins. The graphics stand no chance against the PS3, but if you don't have an HDTV you won't notice any real difference at all between them.

The problem you'll run into with the Wii is availability, they are still very hard to find and tend to sell out almost instantly whenever a store gets more in (this will, probably, only get worse as the holidays get closer).

If you can't afford the $499 price tag then I would try to find a Wii, she will enjoy either one but for your price range the Wii might be a better bet.

1) The 20 GB Model was discontinued long ago. If you only want to spend $300, go for the Wii. Really.
The 40 GB model for example is unable to play PS2 games.

2) While it's possible to exchange the Harddisc pretty easily, the 20 GB model lacks a lot of other features, that can't be added later on (e.g. Wireless networking, USB Ports, etc.).

3) Yes. Most definitely.
For your $250 you get a console, with a game and can start right away. The leftover bucks of your planned $300, can be used to buy a second Remote, so you can play games together or against each other.
You will have the fun of your life on the birthday party playing tennis with each other.

With a PS3, you pay $400, and only get the console. Nothing else.
So on the party you will have this sleek looking console and play hide'n' seek or whatever.

...anything less then the 80gb PS3 is only going to cost you more later... like memory cards and all the "stuff" that helps the system run at optimum speed and efficiency... the 80gb has the internal memory and "all" the bells and whistles...and it comes with (1) game too... I know, I know, it's more expensive...but that the "story"...

May be you'll find 20GB on ebay.com , but, as previous answerers said - it's not the best one, it's got no wi-fi (Arminator said - it lacks USBs - it's wrong, only 40GB has less USBs). 40GB is the best choice for it's price (however, it has less USB's, no card reader and PS2 games won't run on it).
You'll be able to expand memory - HDD can be replaced easely with any SATA 5400 RPM 2.5" HDD, 250GB will cost you around 170$.
