Well, there are 61 keys in the section containing the 'a' on my keyboard, so 1/61 if it's truly random.

If you aren't limiting yourself to the keys containing the 'a', there are a total of 104 keys, so 1/104.

Why?

That depends on the keyboards shape, size, number of keys, and etcetera. It also very much depends on the writer and his or her or its environment. Most likely unless the writer set out to type qwerty, it would not get accomplished. But where there is the ability there is a way.

"Well the DNA in a human cell contains BILLIONS and they all have to be just right or you don't get a human. Statistically it's impossible!"

The error: You're wanting to write the entire novel with random keystrokes, unedited. Evolution makes no such claim -- it edits extremely heavily via natural selection.

my mutimedia keyboard has 135 keys, so if you include all of them there would be a 1 in 135 chance for each attempt. not very good odds.
i'm just glad they don't have a tendency to fall off.

pretty good escially if they were going for the q,w,s,z, or caps lock button... or if they are drunk and dont care where the keys are... or if they do not know how to spell, or if their fingers get confused on which letter to go to... mine do.. :-)
