I have a back injury which causes pain 24 / 7. i have seen doctors and they are the ones that have tried me on different types of sleeping pills, i dont have a set time i go to sleep at all. but when i go to sleep at 5 pm and then wake up at 7 pm sit up all night then go to sleep at 11am then wake up at 1pm is not a life to go through. and that is not a normal sleep pattern. so to say have a set time to go to bed is utterily impossible

take a bath, read a book warm milk triggers a chemical reaction in your brain that helps you to sleep if that's any help also try to exercise daily as that will help in the long run. Never go to be when stressed about something always work it out there and then. also stop taking a nap as that's not helping you much, sleeping pills only work if you lay down once you have taken them.

Getting enough sleep is so important. I used to have alot of trouble falling asleep also. 2 things have really helped me.
One is Xanax, it's an anti-anxiety drug, but it helps me fall asleep fast & keeps me sleeping, although I am kinda groggy in the morning when I take it.
The other thing is yoga. Seriously, I bought a 2-disc set, AM & PM yoga. One helps you wake up with stretches & the PM helps you wind down. A pleasant thing I noticed is that after I turn out the lights, instead of my mind racing all over the place, thinking about what I did that day, what I will do tomorrow, etc., instead, I have unconsciously started focusing on my breathing and before I know it, I'm asleep. I don't remember how long it was after I started yoga that my sleep got better, maybe a few weeks.
The other thing you can try is progressive relaxation. After you've turned off the lights, start with your toes: contract your toes muscles, hold for a count of 5 and then slowly release. Then do your feet, calves, and work your way up through your body, tensing, holding & releasing each muscle group. This exercise physically relaxes your body & gives your mind something not stressful on which to focus.
Of course, it's important to mention this to your doctor - there are many reasons people have trouble sleeping/falling asleep, some are stress-related, but you could have an underlying physical problem that is interfering with your sleep cycle.
Taking a brief nap in the afternoon should not interfere with your night sleep. You may want to try shortening your afternoon nap to 30-40 minutes & see if that helps, but then I believe in giving the body rest when it wants it.
Good luck!

Even Benedryl or Actifed gives you energy? I thought I had it bad. I feel like I'm not on a 24 hour cycle but a 12 hour one, I sleep a few hours at night and a few hours in the afternoon. I also use a cd that guides me through relaxation and into sleep. Got it at the bookstore. It helps, but I also have a prescription that's actually an antidepressant but is used mostly for sleep called Trazadone.

You need more sleep. Go to a doctor and find out what is wrong? I couldn't sleep when I had high blood pressure. My ex had sleep apnea (not sure of spelling even with spell check) He would snore so loud and then stop breathing. He would wake me up and he would wake himself up. He snored so loud he woke the neighbors up. He just couldn't get a good night's sleep and was always tired. It is impossible to tell you how to get more sleep so you need a doctor to examine you. It could be something very simple. More sleep will give you the energy you're looking for. . .

I wish I could be of more help... I usually can't fall asleep until 5, and then have to get up at eight, and I haven't time for a nap during the day. Then I crash and sleep all weekend... like 14 hours each Saturday and Sunday.
I guess sleeping pills could help you get on a regular schedule.

I would:
a) see a doctor to check if you have a medical problem for your insomnia
b) look for natural solutions like changing your diet, cutting out caffeine, sugar and artificial foods and doing exercise every day to make you tired.
c) I would try to not take a nap in the afternoon and make sure you sleep at the same time every night so your body gets used to the routine and anticipates when you are gonna sleep.

You may be having stress and anxiety. Stop thinking about things that causes you stress about work, etc. Relax you mind. Have a walk with a friend in the morning and plan ahead for your day. Reduce you caffeine intake and eat banana at night to get you asleep peacefully at night.

well i think the only problem you have is just sleeping in the afternoon, because if you sleep in the afternoon then your body will regain all of this energy in the evening instead of in the morning.
so for one week sleep only at night and do not sleep during the evening and then see what happens to your body, you will notice the difference!
