use the smaller show box size flat rate boxes. if given a choice between ten 10 pound boxes and one 100 pound box, they will choose to send the smaller boxes: makes more sailors happy.

The size of the box does matter look at the link below for specifics. Depending where he is, will tell how long it will take but I would say 3 weeks is an overly safe guess. Unless your talking about holiday mail then that is another story. Look at the website I provided, it will give you a lot of info. I usually get the flat rate boxes and send a few at a time, my husband is on the ship and always ask for a ton of things.

oh and, they usually don't get packages until they are closer to land, so that slows things down and NEVER pay for anything like tracking or 3 day service, it won't work!

Use smaller boxes and pack them with the thought in mind that they may follow him around the world and not get to him until 2 weeks after he's home. When you mail something to a ship at sea it goes from the US Postal Service to a military postal facility where it gets put with all the other mail to that ship.

When they get space going out that way they pack as much stuff as they can and send it. If your package fits the space then it goes, if it doesn't fit it sits and waits until next time. Hopefully it fits then. But I've had stuff that I sent before mid deployment get to my husband 3 1/2 months later...after he was home for a few weeks while the last minute package I sent made it to his last port call.

you can not get confirmation to a fleet. I would have ins on it just incase but make sure to ask him if he has room in his "space" or "rack" to put these things that he is asking for. But they have a flat rate box at the post office so what ever you can fit in that sucker is 8.95. So if you wanna go that route then that may be a good idea. It seems to me with my husband the bigger the box the longer it has taken to get there. But you never know the military post is funky. My birthday was in Aug I haven't gotten the card yet. So it is really up to you. I use it all the time and saves money and we live in JApan. So see what you can get into the flat rate box and then what ever else doesnt fit put it in another if it is that big. Good luck

Size of box doesn't really matter, thogh a big box might tempt a thief (it happens).

On ship I don't really know. In Afghanistan mail moved through in about 10-14 days.

having received care packages while in the military and sent some since i have been out, i would recomend that what ever you send, try to keep the box under 25 pounds.
