David M ,
Some of what you say makes sense . But couldn't we just eliminate the "God" as parent part and say the "Community Leaders" Doctors , Wise Men , Teachers , etc." want us to do the bestthings ? Isn't it true that many people , even today's world , need to have a "Deity" tell them what to do because they have uneducated , superstious minds that can't really comprehend the scientific explanations . For instance they need the "deity" of governement to keep them from filling their arteries with transfat . And they need the "Deity" of some belief system ( Chritianity , or such ) to keep them from having casual , unprotected sex . The problem sems to be when the "deity" has to revise a sin . For instance changing casual sex to unprotected sex . Or another example might be just elimininating homosexuality as a sin .
This all seems to fall under the heading of "If there isn't a god it would be necessary for man to invent one ( and his representatives on earth )" .

Interesting response . Many people have tried to use that as a legal arguement in relation to drunk driving . " I got drunk (not a crime) . A friend asked me to drive him to the train station . I was too drunk to realize I shouldn't be driving . I hit a person . My insurance should cover the damages .I am very sorry . But I was under the influence of a legal drug . I shouldn't be held legally accountable ." I am interested
(honestly !) in your view on that .

I know you're going for laughs here, but---short version---most mature Christians believe that Hell is the absence of God in one's life, and spending eternity in Hell simply means going into the afterlife in a condition of not being one with one's Creator.
My idea of Hell would be to meet my Creator and have my Creator tell me how disappointing I have been.
If one does something wrong while in an altered state of consciousness, if one is not responsible for one's actions and does not have control over one's actions, it is hard to imagine that an all-knowing God would "punish" them for it.

I think most people have the wrong idea about sin. If you tell your child not to touch a hot stove and the child disobeys and does so anyway, is the fact the child gets burned a punishment for disobedience? Or rather did the parent not know what would happen if the child touched the stove and wish the child to avoid the pain the parent knew touching it would cause?
It's not about being punished for breaking a rule, rather the Father saw the devastating consequences of sin and wanted us to avoid them. Like any loving parent he set down rules to keep us safe, happy, and healthy.
I don't think God sat around at the begining of time, rubbing his ethereal hands together gleefully as he made long lists of fun stuff that he didn't want us to enjoy. Rather, he understood that there were serious consequences to doing certain things and in the interest of loving and protecting his children, told us what things to avoid. For example...
Your body is a temple - what happens when you don't take care of your body? You get weak, sick, miserable, and can eventually die.
Don't commit adultery - it destroys your relationship with your significant other, prevents forming later meaningful relationships yourself, and leaves you open to diseases you don't want and/or kids you can't take care of.
Honor thy father and mother - have you ever lived in a house where the kids are at war with the parents? It's miserable! Who is really happy in a situation like that?
I could go on, but the important thing is that the laws of God are not meant to constrain us and make us miserable, rather they are the rules set down by a loving parent so that we have the best shot at true happiness in this life.
Sin can make things a lot more difficult for us while we are here, but by grace alone are we saved. Nothing you do or don't do will either save you or damn you. Either you believe in the sacrifice of Christ and accept his grace and forgiveness, or you don't. It's that simple.

Cameron, while Jesus became into asked, "what share cases would desire to I forgive my brother? would desire to I forgive him 7 cases?" He spoke back, "no longer seven cases. yet seventy cases seven." God is lots greater gracious than people and could forgive you back and back in case you nonetheless sin and proceed to come back to him in repentance. it isn't any longer an excuse to sin. The Bible says, "What we could say then? we could bypass on sinning so as that grace would develop? by using no potential!" we don't % to proceed in an identical unfavorable procedures. yet as quickly as we do make a mistake, even a mistake that we've made till now. God will forgive us, if we admit what we did became into incorrect and ask him for forgiveness. do no longer attempt to be without sin out of your human being capability. None people can do this. yet ask him that might assist you to stay a organic existence.

I don't think so. I kind of get the idea that it all comes down to intent. If you aren't in your right mind, you may not be able to intend to sin. It's similar to the idea that a up to a certain age, a child is not accountable for sins he or she commits.
But I think you would also have to be responsible, so that you aren't knowingly putting yourself in that altered state of mind and doing nothing to try to control yourself.
It's important to mention, though, that forgiveness applies to everyone, and most Christians believe that forgiveness and salvation coincide with the conversion. A murderer is not doomed to hell if he or she accepts Christ, and (if most Christians are right) a stand-up member of the community is doomed to hell if they don't accept Christ.

When are people going to realize that no one is going to hell for acts of SINS they commit, but for THE SIN OF UNBELIEF ABOUT WHO JESUS IS (GOD IN THE FLESH) AND REJECTING GOD'S OFFER OF SALVATION. We commit sins because we are born with a sinful nature and Jesus death on the cross atoned for those sins. God offers us a new heart and His spirit to live a holy life. When people reject His offer they automatically choose life without God for eternity. So to answer your question, God will forgive you for all your sins regardless of when they were committed but, if you refuse His offer you choose hell. It is what we are that makes us sinners, not what we do. We do what we do because of what we are. A person born again receives God's nature and the Spirit of Christ to enable them to live a godly life having communion with God and the relationship of Father and child.

Hell is the grave an all men do sin and all men do die.
If man suffered eternal damnation for sin then all men would be damned.
God came to the world int he form of a man Jesus Christ to overcome temptation sin and death for all who accept the atonement.
It is through the atonement that man is by faith made new.

Being saved isn't about not committing sins, it's about your sins being forgiven by Jesus. He died for your sins past, present and future. If you truly believe that he died for you and confess that "Jesus is Lord", then you're forgiven and you don't have to worry about hell, all you have to do is look forward to heaven.

There are plenty of other sins you probably committed & are committing to get the hot place. It is not about works.
It's grace.
Salvation is by Grace alone.
Read the bible, get plugged into a bible teaching church and look to Jesus as Savior and Lord of your life.
