I've suggested BBC courses to many people here with your same wish. It's free and as far as I know it's really useful.
This is the home page from where you can choose what fits better your case
http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/italian/
In addition to this, when you've mastered it enough, you may go to the Italian section of Y/A (or to any other Italian forum) and start reading and answering questions. My English was already pretty good when I've joined Y/A USA but I've improved it really a lot by reading and answering.
Read Italian books, watch Italian movies , speak with Italians if you've the opportunity, date an Italian boy if you're single, come to Italy, etc. Anything you can do will help you grasping our beautiful language. And don't be ashamed or worry if you're not perfectly speaking. We are very tolerant with no native speaker since we are perfectly aware of the fact that Italian has tons of rules and exceptions and to speak it same as a native is for a foreigner almost impossible.
If you're already speaking French this could be of help since we have many things in common (though we have also many things that are completely different...!!)
Good luck (buona fortuna)

Victoria, you should go to a nice big bookstore like a Barnes and Noble and look in the foreign languages sections they probably have DVDs and stuff with immersion courses to learn fast.
I am home for vacation for Thanksgiving. Thank you and good day.

My suggestion, go to a book store where they offer tutorial tapes on different languages. You can listen to them while you are doing your winter exercises inside. Another suggestion, although the expense may be great, visit Italy first hand. I was fortunate enough to have German friends who spoke German and just being around them, I picked up so much. I think being around it for an extended period of time will help you comprehend it better. All the best.

Hey there I'm an Italian fluent speaker.I love the langauge, people and culture.
LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE IS NEVER A WASTE OF TIME.Don't listen to them.
Learn italian if you love it and you are ready to dedicate some of your time to the Italian language.
The best way to learn Italian quickly imo is by using online programs as, if you use a good one, they are highly interactive, here's the program i used to learn Italian very quickly that i highly recommend http://www.rocketlanguages.com/italian/p...
Goodluck :)
