I am looking to get a HDTV and i want to know how many HDMI ports i should make sure that it has. I am hoping at some point to get a Blu ray/HD player, Bose sound system, HD DVR, and some kind of game system. Will i need 4 HDMI ports on the tv or do i not need that many for all those things?

All HDTVs do not have HDMI. Most HDTV's available today have HDMI ports. The original HDTVs more than 4 years old will typically not have HDMI ports.

With today's HDTVs, you will see 1 or 2 HDMI ports. I have never seen a TV with more than 2 HDMI ports.

If you have more than 1 or 2 HDMI video sources or game consoles, you have some viable options. The easiest way is to buy an HDMI switcher. It will set you back $50-$100. If you have 4 sources, I would probably buy 5-to-1 HDMI switcher. This would have 5 inputs and 1 output to your TV.

You also should know that component (red, green, blue) RCA connectors support HD signals as well. They support up to 1080i, where HDMI supports up to 1080p. For example, you would want to use your HDMI port on your BluRayu. Your HD DVR would be fine on component.

Generally if you are going to put in a surround system of some kind your best bet is a receiver that has HDMI Switching. with a little looking you will find some with 3 HDMI ins and 1 HDMI outs for a low price and for a little more you can get 4 ins or more. I recommend that it have HDMI up-conversion as well in case you connect something without HDMI outputs. If the receiver has enough inputs then you only need 1 on the TV. If you are movin a component around like a PS3 from room to room then make sure the receiver has front input jacks for easy access.
There are many HDTV that have 3 HDMI inputs if you want but some have the 3rd on the side for easy access if wall mounted.

Im going to say that from my experience Sony is the way to go for connections. Im also a big Samsung fan. Sony tvs have at least 3 hdmi inputs. At least i know the xbrs do.As far as Bose, im going to say that you should shop around. Bose is really not all they seem to be when put up against other names like Klipsch. Check them out. The bose lifestyle system last i checked didnt even offer hdmi output. They only offer component out. Bose was great 10-15 years ago but they need to step it up.

Generally you have an AV receiver into which you plug everything, then 1 output from the receiver to the TV.

Bose - wont do it. Please listen to some other receiver/speaker packages before you buy these. Generally you can get better sound for less money and a more flexible system.
