I am 5'3 and 143 pounds. If I eat 1700 cals a day and burn 500 cals a day wil I lose weight?
How can I burn 500 calories? How long would I have to go on the tredmill? I usually run at 5.2.

do NOT count calories burned - they are never gona be precise anyway.
all you have to count is cardio time - 4-6 times a week for 45-60min is all you need.

About an hour should do it. Eating 1700 and burning 500 a day should definitely make you lose weight as long as you split the 1700 calories into 4-6 meals a day.

I go on the Elliptical for about 45minutes and the calorie counter says I burn 610 calories.

But 45 minutes is tough if you are just starting on the treadmill - I spent about 1 month increasing my time just so I could last more than 20 minutes on the Elliptical.

(Apparently the counters on these things are high by about 20%-30% so I burn closer to 500 calories, not 610)
