Atheists tend to try to grab hold to something to believe in. They are going because they know deep in their hearts that God is real and at a Catholic college they are sure to get sound instruction.

I am an atheist who attended a catholic grade school, because my parents wanted me to get the "whole picture". I have a christian mother and an atheist father, and both agreed that their children should be free to believe or not believe, according to what we personally wanted. They believed we could not make an informed decision without knowing both sides. However, I have no idea why an atheist would willingly attend a catholic college, unless a catholic relative offered to pay for college if they went to a specific school maybe?

I wouldn't .... but some Catholic colleges are not overtly religious, and some are prestigious (Notre Dame, Boston College, Georgetown, etc). Plus all the reasons you might go to any college - very good in a certain program, you like the school, your parent(s) are alumni, a scholarship or tuition break. I'm sure a lot of non-catholic people go to catholic schools.

For the same reason a Catholic person would attend a secular college... The institution they choice has the classes in the field of study the student is interested in...

It's a good school? Catholic colleges aren't known to be super-religious like many of their protestant counterparts.

Why not? I know an atheist who attended missionaries schools since he started schooling until he completed his degree.

Not a clue.
Guesses:
Their parents wanted them to go there.
It's a good school for some reason (i.e. athletic program, like Notre Dame).
They become atheist while there.
The school has a great campus, good teachers, and even better parties.
