I see it CONSTANTLY on this site and I just don't understand. People literally proclaim "you will howl and cry and shriek in Hell, but Yahweh will not take pity on you; he will leave you there for all eternity to suffer for your unwillingness to worship him during your mortal life" and then in the next breath, they exclaim "God bless!"

"God bless"? Do you really expect us to take that sentiment seriously after you hammer into us a message of deserved endless torture?

I (and hopefully other Christians) am not hammering you, but hope that you would be blessed by God in coming to know Jesus as your savior. Many atheist wrongly assume that Christians want atheist to go to hell. This is not the case! Actually, it is as if you have a terrible terminal illness (sin) and we have found the cure. We would very much like for you to have it. The problem is that if you do not think you have the illness, you see no reason for the cure. We feel that it is not only important that you know what we feel to be the truth for intellectual or philosophical reasons, but for a pleasant eternity. What we declare about hell is what is in Scripture. If we believe it, we are only saying what it says. If you are right, we are worm food when we die. If the Bible is right, I can only hope you come to know Jesus as your savior. I am not wishing you to hell, but to heaven!!! But according to Scripture, Jesus is the only way. I can not honestly tell you otherwise!!! I guess I dare not say "God Bless" so I will say may the best of things happen for you. (Hope that is OK to say, as I mean it in all sincerity)

Well I'm not an atheist, but I do have atheist friends. Most of the time I think its neither. I don't think they really want you to burn in hell but I don't think they have a genuine concern for you, either. They are doing what they were told they are supposed to do. They think that will give them brownie points with God. What they don't realize is that the church is a business. A money-making business. Of course they want to recruit as many donating members as possible. And the best way to do it is to convince Christians that there will be dire consequences if they don't help (and that it is their duty, as good Christians, to "save the heathens from the burning pits of hell"). Its a great sales pitch, but that is just what it is. Some people just don't know they're contributing to it

Unfortunately this approach is religious as opposed to Christian. Christian's must point all people to Jesus Christ. Anything less is judging the world which is God's business. The same grace that applies to me applies to them because its source is God. God desires that none should perish but it also says people perish for lack of knowledge. I believe the judgmental approach results from a poor understanding of the grace of God which gently reminds us that all is not well within. Christian's need to understand the conflicting world views in society and the questions that arise out of these world views. If not then we will be speaking largely to ourselves. We must know our system in contrast to secular thinking or risk answering questions that aren't being asked.

Maybe they are reminding you that there is still time to change your direction and ultimate destination from Hell to Heaven.

You may be on the road that leads to destruction and they are pointing that out to you because they genuinely care and want you to realize that a change of direction is needed in order for you to get to Heaven. To follow up that warning with "God bless you!" seems like loving encouragement to me. Sounds like they may be encouraging you to turn to God, from whom all blessings flow - The giver of eternal life and the only way to get to Heaven.

Ultimately God WILL bless you, that is He will give you what you have earned and allow you to go to the place you choose. If you do not choose Heaven, He will not force you to go there, He will "bless you", that is, "give you" the ultimate destination of your choosing. Because God loves you, He let's you choose.

Zero...I understand your confusion on this apparent set of contridictory sentiments.

"God Bless You" is not a direct well wishing sentiment, but rather a petition to God in behalf of an object of God's love and mercy.

"Dr.Trophy Wife has also expressed an accurate answer...

We Christians take no pleasure in proclaiming the eternal destiny of those who reject God's provision of salvation...I would rather concentrate my efforts in showing the Love of God,even to those who mock and speak evil against us...

I honestly care about you (((Zero)))...I know that you are angry but God is more than willing and able to penetrate and change all who will come to Him,in faith believing...Shoot me an e-mail sometime...I don't bite...Well a maybe a little....LOL

I'm Christian, however, believe it not, I think I understand how you feel!!

I had an experience, a few years ago, on the Religion & Beliefs message forums(on the Christian General Message forum, to be exact), where this one poster who was Wiccan, was hurling all these abusive messages at me, & then she would conclude her posts with "Blessed Be."

I finally told her to quit telling me "Blessed Be" all the while her posts clearly showed she wanted to curse me outright.

To this day, I wonder what the bloody hell was that woman's problem?!?!?!;-0

Well I care about people, even if they aren't Christians. So I for one DO NOT hammer ANYONE down, no matter what their religion is. I say "God Bless!" because I really want God to bless them. Is that so hard to understand? and also when people say that atheists are going to hell and then they say "God bless!" They could just be saying, I hope you get your life turned around.

It's a wish that may God still guide you and lead you to where you belong despite the fact that you didn't believe in Him. If you know Don Moen, he's an atheist before he received Jesus Christ as his saviour. It's not easy for Him to accept God, being the fact that he's an atheist. But I believed God showed him the way to know Him.

It's a same fact that every Christian was hoping for, to the person they share how God works in their lives. I don't know how he/she say that atheists goes to hell that really bother you but it's just what we know is the truth.

Maybe He/She wants to show you that despite the fact that you get mad at him/her, she just want to show you that they care. Because if their real intention is to hurt you, they will just go away, but still they wish for God to bless you. Its a Christian thing that they still love the people who hur them, that what makes them extraordinary.
