Wikipedia - remember that it's created by contributors, but it has a wide array of topics, references and in multi-lignual.
As an aside, be sure to scroll to the very bottom of the home page and see the other Wiki resources that are available - such as WikiQuote (submit a word and get useful quotes for writing, email footers, etc.), or WikiSpecies (easily digestible information)...and WikiBooks (searchable open source reference for textbooks), including a very useful sublink for WikiJunior - references for Kids.
Wiki can vastly help increase your knowledge base because the research and information is compiled and digestible - and easily cross referenced to even more informational sources.

You cant get a 'best place' for all the different people to live in a single place..
Similarly you don't have a website that's best for all, each category has its own type...

I have no knowledge not in Computer Science , but what ever little knowledge I have, I find "Yahoo" seems to me very user friendly in all aspects.
