And if so why are we so quick to forget it?

I think this is a good question. Many illegal immigrant sympathizers argue that this country was built on the backs of ILLEGAL immigrants.

Are there any examples of illegal Chinese, Irish and Italian immigrants working in the late 1800's to early 1900's?

My degree is in American History, with a concentration in applied studies. 4 of my great-grandparents were legal immigrants within the last 100 years, one of which was killed in a coal mine collapse (which helped to supply the railroads) before labor unions made a difference in conditions, my grandmother and her sisters went into that same mine in their teen years to work. I have ancestors on the other side of the family that fought for the Union in the civil war.

I haven't forgotten squat.

Since anyone not 100% Native American is an immigrant, then yes. HOWEVER, Social Services was not around then and our society has evolved alot differently than in those times. There is a breaking point to our society and the higher the population of illegals, the higher the strain on our social services fundings. History has not been forgotten but embraced in general. Do not all American citizens have equal rights?? Although someone will still complain of the past, the truth is they are better off now than if their ancestor's were never brought here either willingly or forcefully. The past is just the past, we need to look to the present and remember our mistakes of the past but not dwell on them but prepair for our future and if something is not done about the social burden, there will be no future.

Yes they are exterminating our people into poverty with cheap labor and bring back deadly disease's into the US. DO a search on TB and be amazed how many illegals tested positive for active TB in chicken plants in ALABAMA, I should know, I live here 40+ out of 180. Will you eat chicken now???

Yes, it was, assuming that you are talking about the U.S. People are quick to forget this because they hate immigrants for the same reasons people have always hated immigrants: racism, xenophobia, and a hatred for anything different from themselves. Many people only despise illegal immigrants, and while I do not approve of illegal immigration, in a way this country was built by illegal immigrants. In centuries past there illegal immigrants came from Europe and started killing off most of the natives through a combination of conventional and (usually unintentionally so) biological warfare, conquering their land, and forcing the survivors to live in small reservations in the least desirable land in the country. And yes, they were illegal immigrants because they settled in the territory of the Native American tribes WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION. At least the illegal immigrants nowadays aren't exterminating the people who already live here and introducing deadly diseases. Does that justify illegal immigration? No, but don't deny that this country was founded by ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

Yes and No.

This country was built mainly on competition. If the Colonists (British bloodline) didn't conquer the natives; France or Spain would have.

Mexico got the short end of the stick.

Our problem is that we don't do anything about illegal immigration. We deserve what we get.

It's pretty simple when you think about it, but everyone wants to be Politically Correct. This complicates everything. You can't maintain the USA without hurting someone's feelings.

The bottom line is: Once China/North Korea decides to attack, WE will be going to war. Illegals will stay here and continue sending US dollars back to Mexico.

I don't blame Illegals for this. It's our fault that we elect mental midgets into government. Republicans or Democrat...what's the difference. Give me a break.

This country was bill by immigrants since the beginning, The English were immigrants, the rail road was build mostly by Chinese and people from Ireland. Just look into the history of New York, we have Italians, Chinese, and many others.
Who you think fought for the North in the North and South war, many Europeans joint the north army just to get their US citizenship

WE, are all immigrants except those that were here first, i.e. the Indians. What we can't forget is that we have laws that gov. this country & we must abide by them. What you all forget is that ilegal is illegal, the more you try to cover it up the more we will expose it. Your definition of freedom is braking the law, our definition of freedom is to obey the law. Think on that for a while maybe you will see the light!

Yes. But I don't owe anything to Joe's Mexican brother just because Ted's Irish grandfather did something nice for me.

We still need immigrants, but since 1870 we have been increasingly selective about who we take. Let's open our doors a little wider to good people and close them to the bad ones.

Yes, this country was most definately built by immigrants. Unless you're 100% native american, you came from immigrants. I think people are quick to forget it because they take for granted the freedom and civil liberties that immigrants fought and died for.

Read some TRUE HISTORY books about immigrants. They were good for starting riots, etc.
The ones who built this country were the Colonists.
