They are ok as long as you don't overdo.
People who are dieting have a tendency to limit themselves on one thing and eat a TON of something else.
If you eat too many, it will spike your insulin and that will cause your body to store fat faster.
So, eat some but not a lot.

Look at the sugar content...hard candy still has sugar and calories.
