Should we do it 24/7? Should we let our children know we are afraid? She we teach them to be afraid too? (Doesn't sound nice or practical!)

Fear.....Fear is an Obstacle Great
It's a great hindrance not only in Christianity but in any Spiritual Path a Person may choose for themselves
Any Spiritual Path should lead to Fearlessness and Unconditional Love

To a limited degree, yes... but respect would be a better word for it than fear.

Fear of the Lord is a VERY good thing... but we aren't talking about fear in the horror movie sense of the word. Like I said respect is a better word.

Do you have a buddy that is a Marine? Maybe a brother, or a boyfriend? If you do then you can relate to the fact that you know this person loves you unconditionally... you trust them totally, with your very life...but in the back of your head you also know that they have the capability of killing you so fast that you will be dead before you hit the ground and will never know what hit you. Not that you think they will... but you know they COULD.

So that is what Fear of the Lord is. A respect for the awesome power of the Lord. You know that there is a lot of love there, there is also power. And yes, having such respect 24/7 is a good thing.

Jesus will love you no matter what... but that does not mean He is some sort of whimp, to be pushed around at will.

Fear is the result of no certainty of knowledge which is not a Christian idea. Christianity is based upon an absolute infinite creator God in three personalities whose mutual reciprocal actions denotes one God. To say God is love as the Bible does is to describe what I have described here. So for the Christian we have reason to be optimistic and not pessimistic because we have certainty of knowledge in regards to all things. Only the non-Christian has reason not to be optimistic because in their system values change from person to person, country to country continent to continent. We have 12 children and we have allowed them to be exposed to most things but they have the same Christian epistemology as we do. They understand that our universe is not a chance universe but that it has order because the 747 Jumbo can fly. This is because it is built to conform to the laws of the universe that exists. Our world is violent and lost, but the Christian with their absolute infinite creator God have every reason to be optimistic because for them eternity is the ever glorious present and the eschatological promise is blyss.

Well what does the Bible say?

"Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." 1Peter 3:14

Jesus said, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Mat 10:28

Lu 12:32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom."

Joh 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

So what do you think?
Mt 10:28

Teaching a fear of a entity you should love with all your heart and count on for unconditional love is very counterproductive and mentally harmful.

Anyone who states the divine needs to be feared doesn't even have a whim of a clue of the truth.

Well you shouldn't be afraid 24/7 and in a TOUGHT situation and you kids are scared to.. Obvisouly don't show that you scared.. They think - OH NO. If there sacred them I must be DOOMED.. (haha) And I don't know if you should really "TEACH" them to be afraid.. But show them that it's okay... There's nothing wrong with being afraid every now and then.. It happens to everyone...
=) Hope I helped

Fear in the Bible in regards to God is reverent awe, and it that case if you can teach your children that we fear God in gratitude for what He has done for us. He Loves us by a choice of His will which He didn't have to do.

Otherwise a good definition of fear is: False Evidence Appearing Real.

No revere.

It does not matter what language, Hebrew or Greek, the word "fear" also means revere.

Only God's enemies should fear Him.

Hos 6:6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Mercy means loving kindness.

Our heavenly Father is a loving Father and wants our love and REVERENCE.

Organized Religion has used fear to control and influence the masses for hundreds of years.

I don't think that God wants us to be afraid of Him.
