I was once at a balloon festival and as I was sitting on the grass looking up in the clear blue sky someone made a reference to "men's underwear" and how they have "bacon in the back and eggs in the front! Then my cynical brother in law stated that "well sometimes if you don't have time you can just turn your underwear around and the bacon would be in the front and eggs in the back!

Just a gut feeling but in the diners of old, the bacon and meats were always cooked in the kitchen and warmed for serving on the front grill along with the eggs and potatoes.Short order cooks did their work on the front grill.
