A neurologist is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the neuromuscular system: the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, the neuromuscular junction, and muscles. In other words the nerves, spinal cord, brain, etc.
Don't be scared as worrying before hand will make you feel stressed and therefore the actual appointment will seem scary. Wait until you have been seen by the Dr before you jump to any conclusions.
Good luck and good health :-)

I have recently seen a Neuroligist and he is GOD send.
I've been haveing Cronic lower back pain and have had every test imagineable done by surgons and pain clinc's to no avail. All the doctors said all the tests came back normal and to them that meant no pain. I said tell the dam pain that ,my family Doctor recomended a Neuro;igist and i was wandering and worrieing about the visit myself.
To my surprize the Neuroligist picked up on the cause of my problem within 15 minutes and no surgery would be required.
He explained the cause of my lower back pain and what we were going to do about it.
I had to have some blood work done and a urine test. I was allso percribed Vicoden and i noticed that there were no refills on the percription and i asked him about some refills and he said what for, he will be giveing me a shot "pain Block" on the 29th of this month and i would no longer have any pain a day after receiveing the shot.
For the first time i had someone who did not look at me like i was a nut case but truely understood the cause and treatment for my pain.
Dont worrie it's the best experience of getting a hold on this pain in the three years that i've had it.
Good Luck

A neurologist deals with all areas of the nervous system. There is nothing to be afraid of, I go to one every few months. They treat all types of headaches, seizures, Parkinson's disease and even some types of depression brought on by brain dysfunction. Mine treats me for headaches, tremors, and Eagles Syndrome. The only test I ever had to have was an MRI because of numbness when there shouldn't have been any. They are very good doctors. I went to a few before I found a good one. Don't be afraid, they can't make you do anything you don't want to do unless you are still too young that your parents make all your medical decisions. Please don't be afraid there really is no need.

I had cubital tunnel syndrome (carpal tunnel only in the elbow) and had to go see a neurologist. He put these little leads on my finger tips and ran minor minor amounts of electricity through the leads that were on my fingers. It was a test to see if there was any damage to the nerves that ran the length of my arm. It didn't hurt and it only took about 15 minutes. Be strong and don't look for things to worry about. Just take things as they come and you will suprise yourself at how much a person can handle when they have to.

The neurologist is a special doctor who will talk with you and examine you just like your regular doctor. They may order some tests. They are doctors who have gone to school and trained more years than regular doctors. Try not to worry. Because of their special training, they may be able to help you more than a regular doctor.

What exactly is it that you're scared of?
His diagnosis? His examination?
You don't state why you are seeing a neurologist. I doubt seriously if anything will occur during the examination that you need to fear.
