I am 12 and I don't go to bed at 9:00. I go to bed at 10: then read until 10:30. Then wake up at 5:30 to take a shower. Then get ready and every thing. I take a 30 min shower and get read until 6:45 then watch the new and eat breakfast then leave at 7:45 for school. I have been doing that since I was ten and I like the way I am doing it, I feel refreshed and awake. I am not sleepy at all. But whatever works for you that's fine.

And My mom lets me have two sleepovers and we can stay up until dawn if we wanted too.

Well for the 12 year olds 8-8:30 is kinda early for it being their bedtime on the weekends, on the weekdays thats a great time. I think you should give them a extra hour on the weekends. Now the 4 year old that is a prefect time. You should think about, but when it all comes down to it it's really up to you and noone else.

8 is way too early if you ask me. When I was 12, it was 10:00 on weeknights and 11-midnight or so on weekends, but if I wanted to piddle around in my room until 3 they wouldn't say anything, I liked to read so sometimes I would stay up half hte night reading on weekends... not weeknights though, I had to go to bed, lights out phone off.

I would have freaked if my parents tried to have me go to bed at 8:00 and 8:30, I can't believe they don't fight you harshly on that! Also I would have freaked if my parents would have made me wake up at 7 on weekends. I could sleep until at least 9.

Also let the girls live a little maybe let them have 2-3 sleepovers. When I was that age, I slept at my friends house one weekend pretty much all weekend, and then she came to mine the next weekend and so on, except when we had plans. That is what 12 is about! 12 is not THAT young for staying up later and sleepovers and babysitting.... you don't have a baby sitter for THEM do you?

Well on weekdays(on school days) I think it should be 8:30-9:00. On weekends I would say 9:00-10:00. I would say 1 sleepover per month is a little harsh, my mom almost every weekend lets someone sleepover. So I would say every other weekend their friend(s) should be able to have someone over/sleepover.

Personally I was going to bed at around 10:30pm when I was 12. I think the sleepover quota is a good idea, but at the age of 12 children are starting to find their own way in the world and strive for independence. You could have a mutiny on your hands if they discover their friends are being allowed to stay up later than they are.

It seems a little harsh that they are only allowed to stay up an hour longer than a 4 year old; have you tried discussing it with them? If you can develop the idea of responsible 'power-sharing' in your relationship with them then they may respond very well and surprise you.

There is not such a thing as a good or bad time to put your kids to sleep...Growing up we used to play games every night
with my parents, we used to go to sleep at 11:00 p.m. week days and at 12:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The next morning we used to get up and still talk and laugh about the night before. We had so much fun and spent such a great good quality time together that I still cherish those memories. Enjoy, laugh, live those were my mom's words.
We used to own a supermarket and my Mom and Dad worked very hard all day plus we were 8 kids in the house
I was the youngest one. My parents never payed attention about the criticism from people about our sleeping patterns.
They both died when I was 16 and now I appreciated all those nights more than ever.
Put your kids to sleep when you and they feel comfortable...
...you only live once!

9 or 9:30 is when my 12 years old daughter goes to bed, many of her friends are up till 10 or 10:30 due to homework, most of them are in advanced classes so they deal with a great deal of math. They wake up around 8 am Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm why do they wake up so FREAKIN EARLY ON A WEEKEND!?!?!?!?!?!?!

STRICT! let them have 2 sleepovers a month. and i wake up at 6 AND I GO TO BED AT 9! on weekends they should be able to go to bed whenever they want to, you can set a limit like 10:00.
