Depending on the type of chemotherapy you are one it may stop the fingernails from growing. However in regards to an answer that was written to this question before me...Please DO NOT STOP TOUCHING THE PATIENT RECEIVING CHEMOTHERAPY. It will NOT harm someone if they touch a patient receiving chemo.

Actually, with my chemo, I had a freaky thing happen, and they call it chemo nails. My nails grew so long, and hard, like I have never had before. It was great. Now 4 months later,............as they grow out, breaking, brittle and now I have to keep them short as the nails also raised on my fingers and it was painful.
like the 2 answers before me, a person getting chemo exudes negligible amounts of chemo, not enough to affect any other person. While under chemo it is very important to be touched, ie hugged as your world is falling apart, you feel really nasty and your friends and family become your reality, your connection to the world outside of cancer.

The only problem I had with my nails were that they discolored, turned black. I'm on tamoxifen now and the hormone seems to be making my nails soft and crack. As far as chemo coming out of the skin. Don't believe everything you hear on some of these answers.

Yes, it did in my case.
My nails didn't grow. I shaved my legs once, and then didn't have to again until after chemo was over. Even those irritating chin hairs did not show up while I was on chemo.
Best wishes

Yes. Also on a side note, chemo chemicals are excreted through you skin and excrement and will damage your septic tank if you are on one. It can also be harm full to other people and they should not touch the patient any more than necessary.
