Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is
running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic
rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a
reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the
body at rest in such activities.
The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout
the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we
are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of
body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are
less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than
fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time
staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of
the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to
store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains.
How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is
ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or
sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism.
Causes for Low Metabolism
* Fasting
* A low calorie diet
* Snacking throughout the day on high sugared foods (candy, colas,
cakes, gum).
* Eating or drinking too much sugar containing foods.
* Lack of physical activity.
* Underactive thyroid.
Metabolism Boosters
There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that
improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal
thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may
have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive
sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc.
How to Improve (Speed up) Metabolism
* Do not skip any meals
* Exercise daily
* Build your muscles
* Avoid alcohol, sugar, and fastings
*Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.
*Eat foods with high nutrition values

I'm 5'3" and my weight usually ranges between 110lbs -115lbs. I used to be able to eat everything I wanted and either not gain hardly anything, or if I gained weight, I could lose it quick. Seriously, I ate Sourdough ThickBurgers from Hardees for a week straight ( I LOVED those things ) I gained 10lbs that week, by the next Monday I had lost all of the weight I had gained by doing nothing. Now I'm a little older, only by a couple of years since then, and a new parent and my weight doesn't disappear as fast as it comes! I've heard somewhere that chocolate can enhance a person's metabolism. It might have something to do with their genetics, metabolism, age, and body structure. My mom is 5'2" and usually weighs around 100lbs. She's super petite as is my sister who is 4'9" and is usually 80-90lbs. I'm built a tad different than they are.

The best thing to do would probably be a high protein diet (lean meats, protein shakes etc), and to do work with weights on her arms and legs, also,, squats are great for improving muscle tone in the thigh area. A high protein diet combined with the right exercise program will bulk her up a bit, without her getting chubby or looking like a body builder lol. I think the best thing you could do is consult a personal trainer at your local gym, they help guys bulk up all the time, so they can help her gain some mass. I have a friend in the same situation (shes 5ft9 and weighs 100lbs) and its really not anything shes doing, shes natrally VERY slim, but shes put on about 10 lbs after changing her diet and working out. Gaining "good" weight is not about upping calories or carbs, its about feuling muuscle and building it up. So yeah, high protein, correct training and shell be fine. I would consult a local personal trainer and go and see a nutritionist, as from my friends experience, that worked. Dont listen to other people, they probably just wish their girlfriend was as skinny as yours. Hope that helps, xxx

I eat a lot too, but I'm not supper skinny either. I'm about 5'7 and I do not weight 100 pounds but I sure wish I did. I guess some people just have super fast metabolisms. I am soooo jealous of them.

Metabolism, and can be other things like if they smoke because the average smoker is usually 10 pounds lighter than average but that's it. If they exercise drink a lot of water. If they're a thin person who eats mostly junk they're not getting proper nutrients obviously so they will have little muscle and more fat, but fat doesn't always make you look big sometimes muscle does.

i'm 5'6 and today when i weighed myself, i was 101.
my metabolism is just way fast! seriously, when i eat all day, i end up loosing weight. i know it sounds weird, but getting up to go to the fridge and the actual digestion process burns all the calories i'm taking in. its actually more healthy for me to eat fewer larger meals apposed to an over weight person who should eat more, smaller meals.
it has nothing to do with muscle mass. think about a cat... muscley? no. all they do is eat, poop and sleep all day. yes, some of them do get fat, but that usually has something to do with being spayed/neutered.
it all comes down to genetics. some people are just lucky... if you want to say lucky. i actually wish i could gain like 15 so i could reach the minimum of my ideal weight. i cant find pants to fit for the life of me!!! i have big ol hips, chick legs and no butt! :P

he metabolic powers particular foods have to make your physique burn a lot more body fat.” It is a way of rating foods, based on “how numerous calories your body is going to burn just breaking down the nutrients every time you consume a specific food.”
Therefore, you are not alone in this battle.
