I don't understand your comment about the "party line". General Simmons merely stated what has already been trumpeted in several DOD briefings and press releases. The level of violence is down and our troops are getting more cooperation from Sunni and Shia alike regarding weapons caches and hideouts of the Salafist Jihadists who are a threat to both of them.
Of course, one has to get beyond the lead paragraph of the story to learn that is what he was referring to.

First I agree with RTO Trainer

Second, all MG Simmions is saying is what the numbers show, it is a good statement. It has nothing to do with party lines. General care about there men and women before they care about politics!

A favorite military saying is a quote from Gen George S. Patton: "If everyone is thinking the same, no one is thinking."

Civilians have some of the strangest notions of what the military is "really like."
