is it really just as simple as burning more calories than you intake to lose weight? i generally intake 500-900 calories fewer a day than my body burns (average), but i eat unhealthily often, such as fast food about twice a week. could that prevent me from losing weight, even though i still am technically burning more than i need? thanks guys.

a lot of times people underestimate calories and amounts of food they eat
how to tell if your body really burns as much as calorie calculators say? when you maintain eating certain amount - thats how much your body burns. if you lose a bit every week (1-2lbs) it means you are doing it right.

A pound of fat is 3,500 cal. so if you burn up 500/day or take in 500 less it will eventually reduce your wt. Fat is fat as far as calories but some fats that are in fast foods may be more harmful than other types of fat as far as building up in arteries.I would question how you know what your cal.requriments are for a day? This depends on muscle mass and energy expenditure and your specific metabolism rate etc...kind of hard to do off the top of your head

Yes, eating less than your body burns a day and you will lose weight, whether its food from junk food or healthy choices. THOUGH it has been proven that eating healthier improves weight loss because your bodies hormones react differently to junk food ( more negatively ) and it will put more emphasis on storing junk food as fat than healthy foods.

Plus, junk food is high in calories and it is harder to eat in a deficit, while healthier foods are lower in calories and contain more nutrients/vitamins
