"Murder" is such a strong word. I prefer "retroactive abortion".

I'm an atheist and I certainly have a problem with murder. I'm surprised you would assume differently.
As an atheist, I beleive this is the only life any of us will get. Therefore, we have to enjoy it while we can. I wouldn't want anyone to end my life prematurely, and I would never do that to anyone else.
On the other hand, if God exists, I have a hard time understanding why HE would be opposed to murder. How can life and death issues matter to someone who will never die? And if we're all going to live eternally somewhere else anyway, why should murder be considered a big deal? If you ask me, your question is a bit backwards...

I'm confused as to why you'd think so few atheists are opposed to murder. Unless they're psychotic, no atheists are in support of murder.
You see, the overhwelming majority of people in the world develop some kind of empathy for their fellow humans. Since we know that this life is the only one we've got, we don't want to cut short anyone elses chance at life, because we wouldn't want that to happen to us.
Religion has ABSOLUTLY nothing to do with whether people become murderers or not. Killers will kill no matter which God (or no God) they worship.

I'm opposed to quite a few things. I don't believe in murder, abortion, stealing, lying, cheating, to name a few. I just don't need some ancient book to tell me that it is wrong. I do care how someone dies, because I don't like to think that someone I love died in pain.

I question the ethics of anyone who uses a name Holy, to start.
I think you'll find that most atheists are opposed to murder because that's imposing your will on someone else (to say the least!). That's something that restrictive religions are best at.

There's nothing that states atheists have to believe existence is futile. Most believe in living your life to the fullest because its the only one you get. When someone cuts that precious opportunity short, that's heinous.

I have a very good set of morals and am opposed to murder.
Edit:
Despite your assumption, an invalid one at that, the value of existences is not dependent on any of the potential gods.
And I totally agree with "Don't think that your morality should be enforced trough civil laws"

Why would an atheist NOT be opposed to murder? I'm sure they don't want their loved ones or themselves to be murdered. The notion that someone who doesn't happen to believe in God condones murder is just a little silly.

Just because existence is futile doesn't mean that nobody wants to exist. Killing someone is wrong, and immoral, whether you're religious or not.

Who said existence is futile? I've accomplished quite a bit in my time here already.
Also - behaving yourself simply in hopes of a reward doesn't make for a very moral person, in my humble opinion.

I am firmly against murder. A life is a precious thing that you only get once, and it's horrible to end someone else's early. Why would my religious disbelief change that?
