Nope. My father used to spend money on dog and horse races. Rent Money. I don't gamble.

well, yes and no. When it comes to spending my money when I'm not sure that I'll get anything back, I'm not a big fan. I can't see myself ever going into a casino and endlessly putting coins in a slot machine or playing craps or blackjack or anything like that.

However... I LOVE picking horses. I love playing things like NTRA's beat the handicapper and I'm playing this weekend in TVG's handicapping contest. but those are both free and you're playing with fake money. When it comes to actually paying an entry fee and funding my own bets, it's different. Part of the problem is that as a poor college student, I don't have 50 dollars to bet on every race like they give you in beat the handicapper. To me, $50 is an awful lot of money and even though I know I'm a pretty good handicapper, I know that it's hard to make all 50 back. If only I was a little more courageous, I could make a decent profit... in the beat the handicapper contest, I made over $1000 with my fake funds and that's even though I missed making my entries for the first week! I love playing the ponies though... I'm just a little too afraid to actually spend much at gambling. But when it comes to watching racing and picking horses, I love it... I made selections during the Breeders Cup and would have hit the pick 6. I watch racing on the computer during lunch at school (and sometimes during class) and I look at which horse I would pick and keep track of how much I would win and lose during a given day. Generally I come out on top... if only i would actually go to the track and place real bets. That's the other problem... I don't have time to go to the track and no one to go with me. I've only been to the track twice and I've placed one bet: I placed a $14 bet and made $16... so I am ahead!

Do I enjoy playing the ponies? enormously!
Do I enjoy gambling? eh.

The most important argument for gambling is that it is clearly an activity people enjoy. Just look at the international popularity of Vegas. They have some of the largest hotels in the world just to accommodate the massive volume of people who visit there for the gambling. In a free society gambling should be allowed, because it is what people want. It raises billions in tax and charity dollars that does a lot of good in society.

Not a bit. I wish I could say it was all moral conviction, but that would not be completly honest. I do believe gambling wrong and causes many social ills. It is called an addiction for some. I personally am too frugal with my money to indulge in a game of chance, other than small raffles for charities, and I usually lose my tickets before the raffle. Before I get trampled, No, my church does not hold any raffles.
Slow night!

I won't lie. I got addicted when I first set up my xpressbet account. I did well off a whim but it didn't take long that I was spending more than I won. Now, I only bet on the babies I foaled and raised. My odds are better LOL I enjoy winning but I don't enjoy gambling if that makes sense.

I LOVE poker, because of this and my family I avoid it. I just can't play for fun and don't have the money to play properly. My wife thought it was pretty cool when I turned $100 into $3200. Yet she found it infinitely less cool when I lost $2000 on a hand. Seriously what are the odds with a straight flush that your opponent has a royal?

I'm with Darth. My father gambled our mortgage and utility money away on horse racing.

I only bet if I feel fairly confident like horses that were running from our yard. I do love dog tracks though. Was once in a dog syndicate and really got into that.
