You wont stunt your growth in fact it will help you develope stronger and be able to withstand the forces of running, jumping and other activities teens your age are exposed to.

Just begin with a systematic approach and start with Moderate intensity focus on proper biomechanics and form, and you will see positive results with the least amount of risk.

If you are preparing for football you should focus on exercises that initially strengthen your core and structural stability, so when you go into the power phase of your workout program your body will have the structural inegrity to handle the next training phase and demands of power lifting and sports.

Moderate intensity with cosnistant progression. Seek the guidance of a professional trainer to at least instruct you on proper bio mechanics, you don't want to go into a gym take advice from average Joe in the gym and end up getting into poor habits that put your body at risk or cause repetative stress.

A great deal of the Patients i have seen injured themselves from years of poor body mechanics in the gym.

Just be sensible have a College Educated professional guide you through inital concepts of resistance training and design a program based on Specific to Your Goals, health history & Individual Anatomy.

Good Luck!

You won't "stunt your growth", but you still want to be careful. At 14, you're still growing and an injury now could be with you for life.

I would suggest that you use either a weight machine or a weight bench, use light weights and do lots of reps. That way you're still getting a great workout that's toning your muscles and the risk of you hurting yourself is much, much lower.

Have fun with the football. I'm green with envy. I was never big enough to play.

Dont do too much dead lifting or military pressing and you should be fine. I personally waited till i was 16 to start but i know plenty of people that started at 14 that seem to be of normal or above average height

weight lifting doesnt stunt growth- its a myth. (unless weights are too heavy and you damage your spine)
do medium to medium heavy weights
there are many sites that provide info about workouts - google it
