not the tall ones, the wide ones that are see thru white with holes on the side and no top. i was thinking of covering the top w/ a towel or cardboard during the night just in case, but they dont jump so i think during the day it would be fine to leave it open, right? i guess they look like this:

No, guinea pigs can chew right through that.

I once kept a couple guinea pigs in a large, long plastic container (this is when I was a kid). I realize now they weren't getting enough ventilation. Also, they ended up getting taken by a dog which was very sad. You don't realize how easily baby guinea pigs can squeeze through stuff too..they look larger than they are, but they are pretty good at escaping. Either look harder for a cage you can afford, or wait until you can afford one. Why are you buying animals if you can't afford their supplies? And whoever said that you need to get two is absolutely correct. Guinea pigs don't do well alone. Check craigslist for an inexpensive cage. You may have to search a lot of categories to get results, but there will be one on there.

As a temporary cage, you can get a large dog kennel for cheap at flea markets or off of ebay. A plastic anything is not good for any of the pocket pets, because they chew chew chew like crazy and they would hasve the basket demolished over night. Unless you already have the guinea pig for some reason, why not hold off on getting one until you have the cage all ready? I know people get excited and want the animal right away, but for the piggies skae and your sanity, wait on it.

I would suggest not. Because i have tried that with my guinea pigs an they would try to get out and get scratched by pushing their paws again the circle side. And she would always pushit over when trying to get out. You can use somethign else like a really big long wide aquarium but for not to long. You shoould really buy a cage for them but if not then use a plastic bin.

P.S Your guinea pigs could also chew it and swallow some of the laundry bin and that would be bad for your guinea pigs!

These are good cages.
A basket is too small for a guinea pig. They do jump, they do this pop jump. I think it's called the pop-corn jump.
Guinea pigs need a lot of space or else they will get fat and weak. They need to run around not just sit in a basket.

They will either climb out or chew through the plastic and be gone. Get a large, wire cage. Your guinea pigs will be safer and happier.

Not such a good idea, the top will be open if he tried hard enough he'll get out, or something will get in and hurt him. I guess for a few days it would be fine if you keep a VERY close eye on it, and keep it in al ocked room while you're not home

Many commercially made guinea pig cages are barely large enough for one guinea pig. However, guinea pigs are pretty easy to contain and it is quite easy to make a good sized guinea pig home out of inexpensive materials. Here are some sites with great ideas.

Try your basket idea if you are in a jam. He can chew through it, But if you don't have the animal yet, wait until you get a proper cage before getting it.

I don't think so. Sorry. You need to buy a proper cage.
