lol, I hope that the people who said it turns into muscle were joking.

Fat is stored on your body mostly as a source of stored energy. The reason why you lose fat, be it through weight lifting, cardio, or dieting, is because your body turns to these fat stores for needed energy.

Weight lifting is a highly anaerobic exercise, and most anaerobic exercises burn fat more readily, as it is a reliable source of energy.

Fat doesn't turn to muscle. If you increase the caloric requirement of your body without increasing food intake, you will lose fat. Lifting weights will build muscle which does require more calories than the body at rest, however, it is NOT a good way to lose fat. Cardio exercises are the fastest way to burn fat. There are a lot of very strong fat guys...

your body fat is used as fuel when you are exercising (and not) when you are working out. Building muscle and the more muscle you have requires more "embers in the fire" to keep the body functioning....muscle burns off more energy than fat so the more you have, the more calories you burn simply just doing NOTHING. You are also TONING those muscles so less "flab" and fat.

I hope you mean lift weights.
Anyways...cardio is the activity that should help you burn of calories and fat. Like cycling, running, walking, etc.
When you lift weights you create additional muscle mass. This result will end upburning more calories and fat (when you do your cardio).

Your body burns it for more energy to work out. Fat is just stored unused energy you take in from eating.

You have to do cardio and eat right. Lifting weights will help overall but won't completely do it alone.
